A great resource! Do not flush any medication!

Our friends from the Pharmacy at Sam’s Club requested a PSA for those folks that are looking at emptying out medicine cabinets now that 2021 is nearly over! We have a Prescription Drug Take Back Program here at the PD, with a drop off box set up in the lobby and available 24/7! We want to emphasize that this is for individual drop offs only. We cannot accept large drop-offs from any type of doctor’s office, pharmacy, or medical facility. We also cannot accept liquids, creams, inhalers, or needles/syringes. Safe disposal of medications is crucial to keeping children safe and our waterways clean, so we encourage our citizens to take advantage of this free disposal service! Please keep medications for disposal in original or other secure containers.

For safe needle and syringe disposal, immediately place used needles and other sharps in a sharps disposal container to reduce the risk of needle sticks, cuts or punctures. It’s recommended to use an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container, if possible. If using a household container, use a heavy-duty plastic or metal household container with a screw-on lid. Once the sharp’s container is properly filled and secured, you may dispose of it along with other household trash. You should never place loose needles or other sharps into the trash or attempt to flush them down a toilet!
