HOW TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT VIOLENT IMAGES:

There have been several reports from community members about concerns with the reaction by children (and adults) having been exposed to the graphic images of Charlie Kirk's death. PBS had a helpful video with how to address children's reactions and I share this with you.

In general, please monitor access to social media, check-in with your child about their exposure to the images, validate their feelings, and educate about how to protect themselves from potential graphic news. AND! Let them know that you are there for them if there are delayed reactions.

Essex County Dispatch will now be answering the Essex County Mental Health After-Hours Crisis Calls.

The ONLY difference that a caller should notice is the greeting, in which Dispatch will answer the phone by saying “Essex County Dispatch, do you have an emergency?” The call will then be transferred to an Essex County Mental Health Crisis Worker to respond to your need.

Please know that you will experience the same quality response to your crisis when utilizing Essex County Mental Health Crisis Services!

This change will be effective on April 14, 2025.
