On February 18 and 19, step outside just after sunset and look toward the southwest horizon for a beautiful lineup of four planets, along with the Moon.

On February 18, the thin crescent Moon will sit low in the sky near brilliant Venus, which will be the easiest object to spot because it shines so brightly. Close by, Mercury will appear as a smaller, dimmer point of light, and it may take a few moments for your eyes to adjust enough to see it clearly. Higher above them, Saturn will glow steadily, while far above the group, Jupiter will stand out clearly and brightly.

On February 19, the Moon will move upward and appear close to Saturn, creating a striking pairing that is easy to notice once you find Saturn. Venus will still shine lower in the sky, Mercury will remain faint but visible, and Jupiter will continue glowing high overhead.

You do not need a telescope to enjoy this event. Just clear skies, a good view of the horizon, and a few minutes of patience will reward you with a memorable sight.
