Harold Gene (Tom / Heavy Dooby) Wimp passed away on July 10, 2024. He was born to Wayne and Mayme Larue Wimp on April 15, 1939, and married on December 30, 1961, to Jo Ann Druin in Cecilia, who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jimmy and Kenneth, “Pedro” Wimp, and a sister, Jackie Sherrard. He worked for Wilson Manufacturing in Cecilia for several years before going to Kentucky Galvanizing/Trinity (1973) in Elizabethtown, where he retired in 2004. Gene was a farmer who loved growing large gardens, sharing with friends and family, caring for his bees, and an avid UK fan.
Harold Gene Wimp is survived by a son, Paul Dean Wimp, a daughter, Dana Michelle Helm, three granddaughters, Catelin Jo Ann Helm, Abigail Emma Jean Helm, and Carolyn Rae Michelle Helm, whom he loved more than life itself, two sisters, Carolyn “Sissy” Joan Wimp and Iva Lee Yates-Saltsman, several nieces and nephews, many close friends, and his dog Blue.
Visitation for Harold Gene Wimp will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 15; the service starts at 11 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
