Another fulfilling weekend assisting at the Getting The Love You Want Couples workshop at . Always appreciative of my clinical colleagues and honored to lead the team.

Thirty couples from every stage of couplehood and commitment arrived to learn the skills of connection on Friday, and left this afternoon enriched and moved by the process. The key is to integrate the learnings into daily life, and we can all use more active listening skills, empathy and validation of our experiences.

Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, the founders of IMAGO Relationship Therapy, work almost every day of their lives to promote relationship health. IMAGO began with couples and through their Safe Conversations initiative, people in work settings, schools and businesses ( and the list is growing ) learn the effectiveness of horizontal( versus vertical - top-down) communication.

Today’s EFT Workshop~

At first glance in these still shots it seems we are speaking in sign language. Instead, I am conducting a demonstration of EFT ( Emotional Freedom Techniques ) helping this lovely woman work through a current challenge in her life. The moment she said ( with sudden delight after two full rounds targeting her emotional and physical state in regards to her presenting issue ) “ Wow, I feel so much better, this stuff is powerful!”, as her classmates nodded in agreement…at THAT moment I felt the flush of recognition I’ve come to expect.

TRUST THE PROCESS 🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲❣️

So my left brained friends, EFT was developed by Gary Craig, a trained engineer and an ordained minister.

He observed the benefits of a related modality called TFT ( thought field therapy created by Roger Callahan ) and noticed that many of the same results occurred when he streamlined and simplified the process to the current basic and extended recipes ( a sequence of tapping points on the body and hands, including eye movements and even some counting and humming ). We often describe EFT as “ emotional acupuncture, and without needles.” This is not to minimize acupuncture by any means but to illustrate the theoretical basis - helping with energy blockages through tapping on meridians.

Of course it sounds strange! But I assure you, you’d be amazed. Today’s class included a physician, and Monday’s class included an engineer. Both wanted to learn the complimentary therapy method of EFT. As with many people who attend my classes the presenting reason for joining was anxiety, for all the many reasons it has increased in the world.

Welcome to the New Year and the accompanying expectations that we will start with a fresh new slate. Composing a list of goals and resolutions that will redirect us into being more efficient and better versions of ourselves, we are on the right path! ( Or so the myth asserts. )

The fact that we are humans with unpredictable and variable reactions to stress, and that we cannot always map out our thoughts and responses, somehow gets missed in the New Year’s resolution tradition. When we fall short of our own expectations we can experience a sense of frustration.

Energy Psychology methods such as EFT ( tapping ) and other related methods realistically approach our human reactive nature. These approaches help explore why we may stand in our own way of achieving our goals, and help us learn more desirable behaviors.

Reach out to me and learn more about EFT. Energy Psychology approaches are about discovering what you are capable of and the healing capacity already within you.
