What's something that you tried and it didn't work?

This is probably the #1 complaint I hear all the time... "I stretch all the time and it still hurts. It's still tight"

Spoiler alert... it's probably not tight then, it's weak! When muscles appear tight, they're actually weak and they're having to work that much harder to do the task asked of them!

Eccentric training is amazing to help with this! Strengthening the muscle through the lengthened/opposite movement of what it normally does, in a slower fashion.

If you're thinking about surgery, think about this first...

If you don't have the time to do physical therapy now, are you going to have time after surgery? Post-op rehab is usually 1-3x/wk for 6-12 weeks. Can you make that commitment to properly heal?

You muscles and nerves are being cut through, and you now have a foreign object in your body. Your muscles and nerves take weeks or months to heal. And your body has to now figure out this foreign object in you and hope to accept it.

Surgery isn't just a "quick fix". If PT is working but taking time, stay the course. If you feel like it's not working, have that conversation with your PT and see if you need to change directions.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone randomly tells me something hurts and asks what they can do to fix it right then.

Our bodies are more complex than that! Yes, I'm generally more than happy to help you. And yes, after years of doing this I probably have a pretty good idea of what's going on.

But don't expect me to solve your 3 year long pain in 30 seconds. The same way you wouldn't expect a mechanic to fix your car without looking at it.

Here's one thing you need to know about your running mileage...

Too much, too fast, puts you at risk for injury. Follow these general rules to help reduce your risk of injury:

1. Don't increase your mileage by more than 10% a week
2. Keep your total weekly miles under 40, unless you're an ultra runner
3. Build in 2 rest days a week

Here's the difference between actually analyzing someone's running form and just watching them run.

Did you know at Motion Activated PT, we have video analysis equipment that we use to be able to slow down and capture real time data and faults?

A lot of small faults are hard to catch just by watching someone run with the naked eye, but can make a huge difference when it comes to your running.

We are able to record you running and go over the results with you during your appointment so you can see changes you might need to make in order to make your training smoother and more pain free.
