Morphine doesn’t kill people; pain does. But in hospice, fear often wins. Families whisper: “Won’t it speed things up?” “Can’t we wait until the very end?” “I don’t want them to sleep through the goodbye.” We get it. You’re scared. You love them. But withholding morphine doesn’t preserve life; it prolongs suffering. Here’s the truth: The standard starting dose of liquid morphine (Roxanol) is 5mg, roughly equivalent in effect to one tablet of Norco 5/325 (hydrocodone + acetaminophen). Sublingual morphine begins working in 15–30 minutes, peaks at ~1 hour, and lasts 2–4 hours. When appropriately dosed and titrated, morphine rarely causes respiratory depression, even in frail, terminal patients. In one study of 27,000, the risk was

Bear with me on this post. It has been an emotional time couple of weeks.

On 1/19 Legato Living at Five Fountains had severe water damage. Residents and staff are all safe, but we had to unfortunately move our residents to other assisted livings.
Legato Living at Heartland Hills and Legato Living Memory Care at Legacy and Eastridge had JUST the right amount of spots open for our residents. That’s was a God thing right there. Still under some amazing care in the BEST senior care model possible, our residents were comfortable and safe. That was our first and main priority.

As many know, there is a lot that goes into a new resident move in. Which is exactly what this was. 8 in one day, actually. We are so grateful they were able to stay under the roofs of other Legato homes.

It’s been a lot on residents, family members, and our whole team of caregivers. BUT holy cow they have been the toughest, most supportive crew. Rolling with the punches and always keeping our residents and their families as the #1 priority.

We feel so grateful for everyone who has helped in multiple different capacities and to our community partners who have reached out.

Restoration began 2 hours after the damage and we are on the road to be back and better than ever ❤️

God has a plan and we will continue to go where He leads.
