If your doctor said your degenerative disc disease is causing your pain let's have a chat 😘

First off, we're not supposed to call it that anymore 🤫

Namely because it's a misnomer ... A disease? You didn't contract anything... It's normal degenerative changes (the AMA came out and said we should stop calling it that so this isn't even my association saying this ya know 🫡)

Anyways back on topic...

If your 'spinal degeneration' is being blamed for your back pain, but you don't have neurological symptoms it may not be just the bones in your spine or joints...

Likely it's the musculature around it even if you don't see changes in those on the x-ray. 👍

So what does this all mean? Instead of going for surgery, instead of going for more injections, why not get a second opinion about what may be really causing your back pain 🫡

If you're struggling with knee pain and recently had an MRI that said you tore your meniscus listen up 👏👏

It may not be the operating room for you!

A new article published in the New England Journal of medicine questioned whether partial menisectomies vs rehab would be better long term...

The answer?

It didn't matter whether you had surgery or not there were virtually no significant differences at the 10 year followup. 🫢

What's that mean for you? You may not need that surgery they're pushing on you after all especially if you have tried anything else yet! 💪

So if this is you, and you're debating surgery, you owe it yourself to hit that follow button and find out if we can help you avoid surgery all together ✅

Meniscus tear? Surgery may not be the answer 👀

A recent 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis published in British Journal of Sports Medicine looked at arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (trimming out part of the meniscus) vs exercise-based rehab for degenerative meniscus tears.

What they found was important 👇

For many people, surgery did NOT lead to better long-term outcomes compared to structured exercise therapy.

That doesn’t mean surgery is never needed. True locking knees, traumatic injuries, and certain cases absolutely have a place for surgery.

But too many people are told the tear itself is the entire problem when the bigger issue is often poor strength, load tolerance, movement capacity, and deconditioning around the knee.

Removing tissue doesn’t automatically rebuild a strong knee.

Progressive strength training, proper loading, and improving tolerance to squatting, stairs, walking, and activity still matter long term 💪

If your knee hurts every time you squat, twist, run, or go up and down stairs… don’t assume surgery is your only option.

Are you waiting till it's bad enough to finally get help with your knee pain? 🤕

Here's the issue with waiting till it's bad enough...

If you try ibuprofen, Advil, cortisone, heat, ice, rest or stretching...

All those things are just masking the real problem we usually see with knee pain 🫢

What's that you ask? Usually load management, capacity, and tissue load tolerance 💪

The things that require a professional, someone in this world to help you solve... How do you find the right person for this though?

You hit that follow button of course ✅ so smash the follow button. And let's find out how we can help you avoid waiting till your knee pain is 'bad enough' to do something about.

Cortisone injections can temporarily calm pain down… but they can’t rebuild a tendon, improve your load tolerance, or make your joint stronger.

And that’s the part nobody talks about 👇

If your knee, shoulder, hip or back only feels “better” for a few weeks after an injection, but the pain keeps coming back every time you train, walk, squat, run or lift… the actual problem was never solved.

Because pain tolerance and tissue capacity are built through progressive loading, strength and movement. 💪

Not through masking symptoms over and over again.

Research has also shown repeated cortisone injections may accelerate cartilage breakdown in certain joints over time 😬

That doesn’t mean cortisone is “evil” or never has a place.

But if it’s your ONLY plan… that’s a problem.

Your body needs load.
Your joints need strength.
Your tendons need adaptation.

That’s what long term rehab is actually built around. 🔥

If your chiro, PT, or Ortho has said to just avoid a movement that hurts to avoid pain... You need to know this 👇

It's not a solution and it's just lazy advice. 🎉

Rest or avoiding movements at first is okay if you use nuance and evidence to back it up.

Like this: say you tear a meniscus, and you're not having surgery (because you don't always have to 🫡), I wouldn't advise running a 5k right away (it might depend though!)

But I also wouldn't advise bed rest (this also might depend)

Notice how both ways there is a:

ItT MIGHT DEPEND

Behind the whole thing? Because it always depends... Nothing is ever perfectly straightforward. 👋

So if your doctor is saying things like this and trying to make general plain all-encompassing statements. Then you need to hit the follow button so that you can get real advice about your entry. ✅

🚨 “Just get another injection.”

That’s the advice a lot of people hear for knee, shoulder, hip, and back pain.

What they DON’T hear enough about are the trade offs. 👇

Some injections may temporarily reduce pain… but they don’t magically rebuild strength, improve tissue capacity, fix poor load management, or restore function.

And repeated corticosteroid injections? Research has raised concerns about potential negative effects on cartilage and tissue quality over time. 👀

Pain relief is not the same thing as solving the problem.

If your body still can’t tolerate stairs, squats, running, lifting, throwing, training, or daily life without flaring up… then the system underneath the pain probably still hasn’t changed.

That’s why at BodyKinetix we focus on:

✅ Building load tolerance
✅ Improving strength and movement capacity
✅ Gradually restoring confidence in movement
✅ Helping people understand WHY things keep flaring up
Not just covering symptoms until the next injection. 💉

There’s a time and place for medical procedures.

But if nobody has talked to you about progressive rehab, strength, recovery capacity, training volume, sleep, stress, or long term tissue adaptation… you deserve a bigger conversation.

Follow us for honest rehab content that actually makes sense without the fear tactics or cookie cutter exercises. 💪🔥

If you've been told the surgery will fix everything watch this ...

While there is always a time and place for surgery, all too often we see the rip cord pulled way too early. 🤕

What this means is you never gave your body an actual chance to heal 🥶

Tissue tolerance and capacity can take a while to change, it's like seeing progress at the gym. 🤫

At first you see little changes and then you notice how far you've actually come 👍

But surgery isn't a silver bullet, even plenty of times regular conservative care outperforms surgical intervention for treatment of general procedures 🤷‍♂️

If this sounds like you, and you're debating surgery, hit the follow button to find out if we can help you potentially avoid surgery all together ✅

If your plan is to rely on cortisone shots to fix your pain you need to head this... 👇

While it has been shown, and definitely does help in the short term...

That injection has some long term consequences that a lot of doctors don't want to talk about 🤷‍♂️

Starting with increasing the rate of osteoarthritis and stopping the cartilage from potentially repairing itself 🤔

So what's the end stage of injections? Usually surgery 🫢

So if this is you and you're looking to potentially avoid surgery...
