Elkin First United Methodist Church Preschool

Elkin First United Methodist Church Preschool is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of the whole child—physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and spiritually. Guided by our Christian mission, we provide a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, learn, and grow at their own pace while being supported by highly trained, compassionate educators. Our developmental goals include:

💛 progress in all areas of early childhood development while recognizing each child’s individuality.
💛 with families to support a shared responsibility for education and well-being.
💛 active family and community involvement in each child’s success.
💛 play-based learning as an essential instructional strategy.
💛 safe, clean, and caring classrooms that foster creativity and curiosity.
💛 children for a confident and successful transition to kindergarten. We believe that every child is a unique creation of God and is deeply loved. Our daily activities reflect this belief through Bible stories, scripture memorization, songs of praise, prayers, and blessings. The loving example of Christian living—demonstrated by our staff—is an integral part of the curriculum. All teachers at EFUMC Preschool are trained in Early Childhood Education, CPR, and First Aid, ensuring both a high standard of care and quality instruction. Program Options

📸 Picture Day is this week.

Picture Day is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year! We are so thankful that Vie Artistry partners with us and provides a 50% profit from all picture orders—this directly benefits our preschool.

This year, we have decided to split picture day up into two separate days. Please see the schedule below. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me in a private message.

📅 Schedule:

∙ Tuesday, Sept. 16 → Babies / Toddlers / Twos — Individual & Class Pictures
∙ Wednesday, Sept. 17 → Threes / Fours — Individual & Class Pictures

If you have multiple children, sibling photos will be taken on the day of your youngest child.

∙ Example: Baby + 2-year-old → Both photographed on Tuesday.
∙ Example: Toddler + 3-year-old → Both photographed on Tuesday.
∙ Example: 3-year-old + 4-year-old → Both photographed on Wednesday.

Class photos will always be taken on their scheduled day, regardless of when siblings are photographed.

At this time, we are not planning a makeup Picture Day due to scheduling conflicts.

Shouting Happy Birthday to Mrs. Maegan Conley Woodie, our wonderful Baby/todler teacher. Mrs.Maegan is doing Amazing things in her classroom this year, our littlest learners have adjusted so well under her care and dedication each day.

— Somehow, I missed introducing Mrs. Maegan, one of our amazing teachers back in August! 🙈 Thankfully, it’s never too late to celebrate the incredible people who make our preschool such a blessing. Today, I’m excited share a little about the love and dedication she brings to our preschool and her students each day.

🌸 Meet Mrs. Maegan 🌸
We are so excited to have Mrs. Maegan Woodie as the Lead Teacher in our Baby/Toddler Classroom this year! Maegan first joined EFUMCP last year, working in the toddler room, and we are thrilled to see her step into this new role.

Mrs. Maegan has a genuine and gentle spirit that the little ones love. She has a special way of soothing their fears during the big transition from being at home to joining preschool life, helping each child feel safe and cared for.

Maegan is a proud mom to three amazing girls, wife to her wonderful husband, and caretaker to a “small zoo” of dogs and cats! She has been surrounded by little ones for as long as she can remember—both at home and in the classroom. Over the years, she has had the joy of working in preschool settings, where she discovered just how much she loves watching children learn, play, and explore the world around them.

Her goal is to create a classroom that feels like a second home—filled with laughter, curiosity, and care. We are so Blessed to have Mrs. Maegan as part of our EFUMC Preschool family! 💛

This week in chapel, our students got to meet Pastor Kaury for the first time. They truly enjoyed their time with him and his lesson. Pastor Kaury continued our discovery into God’s Promises using the colors of God’s rainbow.

Our first discovery is the promise of God’s Love, which applies perfectly to the very first color of the rainbow- Red. Pastor Kaury reminded us that God’s love is always there. It shows up in the way He cares and provides for us, but also in how others care for and treat us. In turn, one act of kindness done out of love can spill over and spread.

We discovered how one small act—like sharing a cupcake or our toys with our friends—can cause someone to feel happy and loved. Then, that same person often passes on kindness to the next person. Just like the demonstration on the paper towel. The more love that filled the heart, the more love spilled over into the other hearts on the paper towel.

That’s very much how God’s love works. God loves us so much, and the blessings He gives us are not meant to be kept for ourselves. Instead, it’s our job to go and spread God's Love and to tell others all about Him and His goodness.

1 John 4:19
“We love, because He first loved us.”

John 13:34–35
“I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.”

Today we had our first Chapel of the Year and we looked at one of the many promises God gives us in scripture and matched it to the color red, the first color in the rainbow that God created. In Genesis 9:12–17, God told Noah that He was placing the rainbow in the clouds as a reminder of His promise:
He would never again destroy the whole earth by flood. Every time we see a rainbow, it is a reminder to us—and even, Scripture says, to God Himself—of this everlasting covenant between Him and all living creatures. The rainbow is both a sign of God’s mercy and a reminder of His faithfulness.

In chapel today, we learned that the Bible tells us of God’s amazing promise of love: that God is love, and nothing can separate us from it! (Romans 8:39). He never changes, so His love for us never changes.

We asked the children, “How much does Mommy love you?” and stretched our arms out wide: “Thiiiiis much!” Then we reminded them, “But God’s love is even bigger!”
We did the same with Daddy’s love, and even their teacher’s love—reminding them each time: God’s love is the biggest love of all and His love lasts forever. 💛
We also talked about how we can see God’s love everywhere—
🌿 in the flowers and trees
☁️ in the clouds above
😊 in our friends and family
😊in how we show kindness
🤲 in the ways we help others

We even built our own tall tower to demonstrate that nothing, no matter how tall or wide or big something is, nothing can separate us from God’s Love.

God’s love is all around us, and we are so thankful that He promises His love is always with us. ❤️

Meet Amy Johnson

Director of Music & Christian Education

Amy has loved worship and music from an early age. Born into a Navy family, she grew up in several communities where her family was always active in local churches. Her mother began children’s choirs while they lived in Annandale, VA, and Amy served as accompanist for her age group’s choir. At just 13, Amy began playing the organ, and by age 15, she was hired as church organist in Pensacola, FL.

Amy is a graduate of Huntingdon College (B.A. in Sacred Music/Christian Education) and Duke Divinity School (M.R.E.). She joined the staff of Elkin First United Methodist Church in August 1988 after serving as Director of Music and Education at First UMC in Marianna, FL.

Deeply invested in both church and community life, Amy volunteers and substitutes in the Elkin City Schools and serves as accompanist for the Elkin High and Middle School choruses. She also plays organ alongside Amy Tayloe for the Community Chorus of Elkin.

Amy is married to Dave Johnson, a Manufacturing/Cost Engineer at True Textiles in Elkin. They have one son, Joel, who graduated from High Point University in 2016.

In her free time, Amy enjoys walking, reading, movies, cooking, and shopping.

✨ We are so blessed and fortunate to have Mrs. Amy as part of our Preschool family!
