Trauma responses are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are your body’s way of protecting you when safety felt uncertain. Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn are learned and instinctual survival responses, not personal flaws.

When we understand these patterns with compassion, shame softens and healing becomes possible.

💛 Your responses make sense.

Your reactions are not random. Different parts of you step in to protect, avoid, or help you get through the day. When you begin to notice these parts with curiosity, self-criticism softens and understanding grows.

I wrapped up the first half of IFS Level 2 on training and honestly? My brain is full in the best way possible.

There's something powerful about deepening your ability to help people reconnect with the parts of themselves they've had to protect or push away. This work keeps reinforcing why Internal Family Systems is such a beautiful fit for trauma healing—it honors all the ways we've learned to survive while making space for who we're becoming.

Taking a breath this week, integrating what I've learned, and gearing up for round two next week. This kind of training isn't just about adding skills—it's about showing up even more fully for the people who trust me with their stories.

If you're curious about IFS or wondering whether it might be a good fit for your healing journey, link in bio to learn more about my approach.

It's mid-January and those resolutions you made with so much hope? Yeah, mine too.

But here's what I want you to know as a trauma therapist: when your goals keep failing, it's probably not because you're lazy or lack willpower.

It's because your nervous system is stuck in survival mode.

When your body thinks it's in danger (hello, unresolved trauma), it's not going to prioritize morning yoga or that side project. It's going to prioritize keeping you alive. Right now.

What looks like procrastination? Often a freeze response.
What looks like self-sabotage? Your system trying to protect you.

I wrote about why this happens and what actually helps (hint: it's not more discipline).

Because you're not broken. Your nervous system is just doing what it learned to do.

When New Year's goals consistently fail, it's not about willpower or discipline—it's often a trauma response. Learn how unresolved trauma keeps your nervous system in survival mode, why traditional goal-setting backfires, and what your body actually needs to move forward. A trauma-informed approac...
