One week ago, we were at with seven wondrous souls. And by "wondrous" we mean brave, thoughtful, vulnerable, honest, compassionate, game, and very funny. We explored what it means to face both surprises that the weather brings (rain! wind! a lot of wind! sunshine! rainbows!) as well as unexpected discoveries within. We ate a lot of Marmite (or not); we embraced the dialectic qualities of both Michael Jackson and the Grateful Dead; we relished a silent sauna and pond. Most of all, we found ways to connect to the present moment, to our own wise and tender hearts, and to one another. As they say, "The Oracle has spoken." (And by "they," we mean "we.") 😂🥹😭💖

Impermanence is not just a Buddhist buzzword. The reality of it has been hitting home lately, in a big way. There's been so much recent change - global, local, and in many cases, rapid - and, for a lot of the folks we know who've been personally affected, damaging. How do we hang on and get through, from moment to moment?

We know, from our own experience, that having a toolbox of skills always ready and available is vital to our survival. Practicing awareness and mindfulness doesn't always look like achieving a state of blissful calm (whatever that looks like) or relaxation. Sometimes it's about just hanging on and staying present. Engaging deeply and intentionally with the physical senses helps us shake loose from unhelpful patterns, increase compassion for ourselves and others, and find the courage and clarity to make authentic life choices.

Our next Come To Your Senses retreat is the last weekend of this month, March 28-31. The early bird discount we offered was meant to expire yesterday. We know a lot of folks are sorting through a lot right now, and we'd like to extend it another week. In addition, we would like to offer this retreat free of charge to anyone who has experienced an unexpected loss of employment in the past month, due to the recent reductions and restructuring that have cut through so many sectors. More retreat info at the link in our bio. DM with any questions, or to register.

Yesterday was Losar, the Lunar New Year for many Tibetans, which means that Guthuk (Nine Things Soup), which happens just before, has also happened. Of course, you can still do the ritual for it (which involves tidying, saying "shoo shoo shoo!", and getting a special message from a dumpling - we can share more details with anyone who's curious). Actually, it's possible for any moment to be the start of a new year, if you want it to be.

This year is already full of plans we're looking forward to - we'll share more about each of them, in upcoming posts.

Happy Losar, everyone. May all beings be liberated.

Last chance for the early bird discount for our November retreat at Saranam! Sign up by Sunday - just message here to register, or with any questions.

Although the name suggests this retreat is all about sensory experience, in reality, it is so much more than that. It's a few days away from your daily life, immersed in a beautiful natural setting, where you can slow down and become aware of your existing patterns, try out a "buffet" of new possible habits, and create a personal toolkit to take home and bring into your everyday life.

It's also a great way to find out what it means to be truly present in the moment, without having to follow the rigors of a formal practice or wonder whether you're "doing it right." You'll discover that harnessing the potential of your innate abilities might just be a matter of giving yourself the space to notice them.

Here is some feedback from a couple of the participants on our last retreat, at The Forge in May. Did you know that we cap our retreats at just ten participants? The deep-dive sensory explorations that we do can be powerful & personal experiences, and we like to tailor every retreat to the individuals present each time. Keeping it small & intimate helps foster a sense of safety & connection.

Our next retreat will be in November: at Saranam, a beautiful retreat center in Montrose, WV. We will have a few practice/info sessions beforehand: on 9/22, 10/6, and 10/20 - all Sundays, all at 2pm ET. Zoom link in bio. Drop any questions in the comments too!

We got to spend last weekend with this remarkable group of people, on our Come To Your Senses retreat, and wow did we luck out. They each brought a unique perspective to the experience: game, thoughtful, and with a terrific collective sense of humor. And each one left equipped with a personal toolbox of techniques for facing all that life brings. It was such a grand time that we are already looking forward to returning next year ✨️ Thanks to The Forge for hosting it all as no-one else can, with such coziness and deliciousness! (Their cosiness now includes/comes in the form of a sauna: so welcome during a May that's ending on a chilly note. And how about the sensory stimulation of that sauna-plus-pond double-whammy!) We are still basking in the delight of it all. 🙏💖

Last Sunday at was a success and a delight. We absolutely lucked out with the glorious weather and spent the whole day outside! This was our pilot run of putting on our Come To Your Senses retreat as a one-day event, and we're grateful both to Backbone Farm and to all the participants for being so game to try it all - engaged, thoughtful, and insightful in everything we shared together.

It's not long now before we bring the retreat back to in Wales - check out the link in our bio for more info, and to register. We would love to see you there!

Here are some things that past participants have said about our Come To Your Senses retreat.

We often mention the retreat's fun-and-games aspects: they're an integral part, and we love them. But life itself holds joy, sorrow, pain, delight, and wonder - and the key to truly enjoying a rich, complete experience is in finding the courage to engage fully with it all. So we also make sure our retreats offer space to invite our minds and emotions, and all that they hold, to show up - and to build a personal toolkit of skills that's always available, for facing all that we encounter.

We've been consistently amazed by the bravery, compassion, and insight that participants find, in diving in to explore their own minds. It's a testament to the truth at the heart of the retreat's purpose: that the most profound discoveries you can make are ones that cannot be taught.

Our one-day retreat this Sunday (April 7) at in Garrett Co, MD, is almost full. Our 4-day retreat at in Corwen, Wales, at the end of May, still has some spots left. You can find more info, and register, at the link in our bio.
