Let's discuss Pandiculations!🐴 One of the many positive responses to bodywork.
Pandiculations are natural, self-stretching responses that may occur during bodywork sessions, and each horse responds differently! We create a safe space where the horse can respond and express themselves freely.

This allows the nervous system to process changes and adapt in a positive, regulated way. This actively engages the brain and central nervous system, helping to reset muscle patterns and restore optimal function. In addition, it increases bloodflow and oxygen delivery throughout the body, supporting the horse’s natural healing and recovery processes!

Over time, this can also help release chronic or long-term tension, improve posture, correct uneven or crooked movement, leading to a more balanced and comfortable way of moving.

The body is incredible!

During your horse's bodywork session, CranioSacral Therapy techniques may be incorporated as necessary.

🔵 What is CST? 🔵
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle and non-invasive approach that harmonizes with the body's natural rhythms to promote deep relaxation, balance, and overall well-being, facilitating the body's innate self-healing abilities! Through gentle touch and targeted holds, we can release tension in the nervous system.

This can help the horse to move with greater ease and fluidity, and effectively address the lasting impacts of trauma, injury, or chronic tension.

The Spinalis muscle is a deep muscle comprised of 3 parts - the dorsalis, cervicis, and thoracis - working together to support the spine, particularly at the cervico-thoracic junction and it supports the scapula as well.

▫️The Spinalis cervicis attaches to C3/C4-C7 at the base of the neck.
▫️The Spinalis thoracis muscle is found at the withers, and attaches to T1-T6 vertebrae.
▫️The Spinalis dorsi continues along the back, connecting to both the lumbar & thoracic vertebrae processes.

The Spinalis provides support for the spine and allows side to side + up and down movement of the horse's head! Some indicators of tightness or restriction in this area include girthiness, short strides, stiffness, bending resistance, neck and head stiffness, and more.

Check out the positive response from this horse as we were focusing on the area of the Spinalis. Our bodywork sessions are horse-led, and we pay close attention to all responses and releases! Want to learn more about the Spinalis muscle? Look out for our next post!🐴😁

Check out this horse deeply processing during their bodywork session. 😄 Horses primarily communicate through body language, so it is crucial to be attentive to their responses! It's important to allow the horse to process the physical and emotional changes in their body. We recognize the individualized reactions and processing styles of each horse during every session.

Bodywork helps relieve tightness and tension, especially when coming out of a cold winter into mud season. ❄️ With routine bodywork sessions, you can keep your horse feeling their best! Serenity Equine works with the entire body during a session, and may need to spend extra time on certain areas depending on what we feel. By releasing tension in one area, it can help another - it's ALL connected. Changes take time.

Lifestyle changes are important as well in addition to routine bodywork - we help identify potential issues regarding many different factors such as poor saddle fit, hoof adjustments/changes, dental, nutrition, and so forth.

Many horses carry tension in their head and neck, but a holistic bodywork approach recognizes that this tension can have far-reaching effects on the ENTIRE body!

By addressing these issues, bodywork can play a vital role in your horse's overall wellness.

🔺The Atlas/Axis junction is crucial in protecting the spinal cord and facilitating nerve function throughout the body.
🔹The Atlas (C1) is the first cervical vertebra, connecting to the skull and enabling nodding 'yes' movements.
Misalignment can occur due to various factors (pulling back, strains, injury/trauma, poor dentistry, etc.) resulting in limited range of motion and tension.

🔹The Axis (C2) works in conjunction with the Atlas, allowing for lateral flexion, extension, and side-to-side movement and together they facilitate rotation of the head.

🔹C3-C7 vertebrae enable lateral bending, flexion, and extension.

Is your horse experiencing tension in their poll or neck or other areas of the body? We can help! Call/text 302.415.0932 or send us a Facebook message for more info.
