Although mental health disorders appear to affect various racial groups at similar rates, the vast majority of mental health treatment providers in the United States are White.
💜
To combat the historic mistreatment and provide the needed mental health services, we need more professionals that look like the communities. African Americans make up 13 percent of the U.S. population. Yet of the estimated 41,000 psychiatrists in the country, only two percent are Black, according to the American Psychiatric Association.
💛
The lack of diversity creates misunderstanding between providers and those seeking treatment. Additionally, without similar, relevant lived-experiences, providers who are not part of the BIPOC community might underestimate the effects that racism and discrimination play on a person’s mental health, potentially leading to a diminished quality of treatment.
💙
For this reason, we created Mentally Fit 4 Life, Inc. because we understand not only the lack of access but also the stigma that prevents treatment.
💚
During BIPOC MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH, we will push the agenda of “You are Not Alone.”

Please support us as we help the community become Mentally Fit 4 Life.
