The Indiana Attorney General warns Hoosiers: Watch out for fake Indiana ‘DMV’ text scams

The Attorney General is alerting Hoosiers about a text message scam falsely claiming to be a “final notice” from the State of Indiana Department of Vehicles (DMV), not the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. These fraudulent messages aim to steal personal and financial information from unsuspecting individuals by threatening actions related to alleged traffic violations.

“These scammers are nothing more than digital pickpockets trying to steal your identity or hard-earned money,” said the Attorney General. “Hoosiers should remain alert of any message demanding personal information, report the message as junk and contact their phone provider for blocking solutions.”

The scam messages claim that, as of Aug. 19, 2025, individuals with outstanding tickets will face the following actions if payment is not completed:

* They will be reported to the DMV for a ticket violation.Their vehicle registration will be suspended.
* Their driving privileges will be suspended for 30 days.
* They will be transferred to a toll booth and charged a 35% service fee.
* They may face prosecution and will suffer potential impacts to credit scores.
The Attorney General is calling on Hoosiers to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

* Do Not click on any links in unsolicited email or text messages claiming to be from the DMV
* Do Not provide personal information, such as your driver’s license number or Social Security number.
* Do Not share any card or account information through text messages or unverified links.
* Report the unwanted text messages as junk on the app you use and block the phone number or email address.
* Contact your phone provider for call/text blocking solutions. Many manufacturers have built-in features to block unwanted calls or offer apps to block and label potential spam calls. Click here for a list of resources available.
* Forward spam emails to the FTC at spam@uce.gov and report at reportFraud.ftc.gov.

If you have already provided personal information or money through a link in these email or text messages, file a consumer complaint immediately online at indianaconsumer.com or call 317-232-6330.

Our Mobile Food Pantry, in addition to providing important food to our home-bound neighbors, offers pet food for companion animals. All too often we know individuals who will feed their beloved pets at the expense of their own nutrition, and Area 10 Agency cares deeply about helping to curb this. Many thanks to No Pet Hungry America for donating today 250 POUNDS of dog food and 144 POUNDS of cat food to help us meet this need!!!

Very happy to share that Area 10 has just received the renewal of our NCQA accreditation for Care Management - Long Term Support Services. The National Center for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations. Earning NCQA’s Accreditation of Case Management for LTSS demonstrates that an organization is dedicated to coordinating the delivery of care in a person-centered and integrated manner to help individuals function optimally in their preferred setting.
Congratulations to our Aging and Disability Resource Center, Care Management, and Admin teams for this achievement! Specifically kudos to our NCQA Committee who works year round at our ongoing compliance: Payton Anderson, Kay Grice, Amy Hriso, Kari Nowlin and Chris Myers.

Your incredible support helped us stock our pantry shelves and provide much-needed food to the homebound populations we serve. We are so grateful for your generosity and commitment to our mission. 💜 As a team they collected over 2,000lbs of food! They are now the proud owners of our traveling trophy. 🏆

Hi everyone,

Area 10 and RSVP would like to shine a light the contributions of an older volunteer in your organization!

We are seeking nominations through August 11, 2025, for our next Volunteer Spotlight, which will run in early October. We put their picture in the paper with a short blurb about their volunteer service and your organization!

Nominees should be at least 55 years of age, reside in Owen or Monroe county, Indiana, and be willing to be honored in this way and have their picture taken.

This Friday our friends at Hoosier Hills Food Bank are distributing food for seniors and children to help bridge the gap this summer. Please let your senior neighbors know or offer to pick up for them!

Mark your calendars...Hoosier Hills Food Bank is offering a one-time summer food distribution focused on children and seniors!

The drive-thru distribution will take place Friday, June 27th from 10am to 3pm at Hoosier Hills Food Bank, 2333 West Industrial Park Drive.

While anyone is welcome, this distribution is focused on children and seniors and guests will need to choose one box or the other.

Specially created coloring books for children will also be distributed along with an activity book for seniors and information on other food and health care programs. Guests are self-declaring their need by participating, no ID or proof of income is required.

HOT weather is here! Please be prepared and help your neighbors, especially older adults and pets! Here's helpful information from our friends with the American Red Cross. Information about Monroe County cooling centers - open 6/20 through 6/25 at all listed below locations from 10 am to 6 pm. Plus Monroe County Public Library downtown (Mon-Thurs 9am - 9 pm, Fri/Sat 10am - 6 pm, Sun 12-6 pm), Southwest and Ellettsville Branches (Mon-Thurs 9am - 7 pm, Fri/Sat 10am - 6 pm, Sun 12-6 pm). For Owen County and more information, you can always contact Indiana 211 by calling 2-1-1 or visit in211.org.

Also, Area 10's Fan Club has been active and we have fans available for seniors in Monroe and Owen County. Unfortunately we have exhausted all donations for window a/c units at this time.
