The Big Idea, What Chiropractic Is Really About
A human is 96% carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen (these 4 plus the rest add up to about 60 total chemical elements). And yet we are clearly much more.
As you look at the body you notice these 60 chemical elements are organized into complex structures. Amino acids, fatty acids, carbohydrates, and DNA are all complex combinations of the chemical building blocks. These complex structures are organized into cells (you are composed of approximately 30 trillion cells). Multiple living cells can be organized into tissues. Different tissues are organized together to become an organ or gland (e.g., a kidney or brain). Different organs and glands make up systems (e.g., the cardiovascular or immune system) and the different systems are organized into a fully functioning human being. Ideally, the elements, structures, cells, tissues, organs, glands and systems work together in an organized and harmonious way. This is the gift of biological life, which is the expression of innate organization through matter.
Is there a system of the body that is used to keep the trillions of cells and all the organs, glands and systems organized and functioning harmoniously? Yes, primarily the nerve system! The brain sends and receives signals/messages, through the nerves (passing through the spinal column), going to the cells, tissues, organs, glands and systems of the body. This innate expression of life through the nerve system is how the living body can work in an organized and harmonious way.
Interference to the nerve system will disrupt the transmission of life messages and decrease the body’s innate ability to accomplish organization. The result? The body will suffer, express less life, health, and strength, become less adaptable and performance, in any aspect of life, can be negatively impacted.
Vertebral subluxation (spinal misalignment) is an interference to the expression of life and chiropractors are the only ones who check for these subluxations. An adjustment removes nerve interference and allows the brain to send and receive uninterrupted life messages to the body, resulting in a restoration of a fuller expression of life, health and performance.
Chiropractic is really more than popping someone’s back or even relieving symptoms. The integrity of your vital nerve system directly relates to your ability to express and live life. This is the Big Idea in chiropractic, a vision I am committed to. How about you?
