We are pleased to welcome Trevana Eades, our new Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)!

With the addition of Trevana in her position, The Arc is now proudly offering Behavioral Health Services for the first time! Definitely an exciting step forward for the people we support.

Happy Easter from all of us at The Arc of Howard County! 🌷🐣

Easter is a time of renewal, hope, and new beginnings. It is a reminder that growth and transformation are always possible.

These values reflect the heart of our mission at The Arc: empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful lives in a community where they are valued, included, and supported.

Just as spring brings new opportunities, we remain committed to helping the people we serve build confidence, independence, and brighter futures. Every day, we see this happening. And THAT is something truly worth celebrating!

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Easter filled with hope, connection, and possibility. 💙

World, here we come! 🌎✈️📘

In The Arc's ITE Program (Introduction to Employment) the people we support learned what a passport is and why it’s so important when traveling to different countries.

They talked about how a passport allows you to explore the world and serves as an official way to identify yourself. They designed their own passport. They discovered exciting destinations like Mexico, Japan, Morocco, and Thailand. Everyone did a great job and had fun learning about travel!

The Arc's ITE supports individuals as they prepare for employment. Our Employment Specialists help participants build essential everyday living and workplace skills needed for success on the job.

From learning how to use public transportation and improving computer skills to practicing communication, hygiene, and other daily living skills, ITE is all about building confidence, independence, and opportunity. 💙

We had the joy of collaborating with Howard County arts icon Lee Andersen at her Interactive Art Museum, DoodleHATCH. Lee so graciously welcomed our Day Program participants last Friday for an interactive art experience!

The people we support created their own self-portraits, each one a reflection of their creativity and individuality. From these, Lee will help participants develop and complete the portrait pieces into something that reflect their perspectives. It will be truly extraordinary!

We're also incredibly grateful to everyone who donated frames to help us showcase these portraits. Because of you, these stories will be seen, honored and celebrated!

The finished art collaboration will be showcased at The Arc Chocolate & Cheers event on May 9. Everyone is invited to attend. Join us! https://archoward.org/events/chocolate-and-cheers/

A life was saved at The Arc, thanks to the quick thinking and CPR skills of our staff.

In a critical moment, their training and courage made all the difference. We are incredibly grateful to Direct Support Professionals Chantal (in photo), Adeyinka, Lydia, and Shatisha, and Direct Support Manager Geraldine who are prepared to act and committed to the safety and well-being of the people we support every day.

“That morning, Blanche was assisted with her morning routine and sat at the dining table for breakfast,” recalls Chantal. “Shortly after, she suddenly became weak, unresponsive, and appeared to be struggling to breathe. Staff immediately assisted her safely to the floor, called 911, and began CPR while remaining on the phone with the dispatcher.”

CPR continued as instructed until Blanche began breathing again and became responsive. Moments like this remind us how important CPR and emergency preparedness training can be.

We’re proud to partner with the Ethan Saylor Alliance within the Maryland Department of Disabilities to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

On April 20, the Alliance is hosting a statewide public safety training at the Public Safety and Education Training Center for up to 75 law enforcement professionals. Participants will engage directly with people with I/DD, learn effective interaction and de-escalation strategies, receive take-home resources, and can fulfill their 3-year in-service training requirement.
