Summer is Time for Fun!
In Chinese Medicine, Summer is the Fire element, so play, love, passion, and joy are the main components of this season and element.

Acupuncture is much more than you probably know

Most people think acupuncture is for pain. In fact, any of the health insurances that cover acupuncture only pay when it’s for pain. In Ancient China, acupuncture was the primary health care for thousands of years. That means physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues were addressed by acupuncture.

When you think of the myriads of physical problems that a person can have besides pain, it is mind blowing. For example, last year one of my patients was seven months pregnant and her baby was sideways instead of head down. After seven treatments the baby turned to the normal head down position and my patient was able to give birth naturally. Without the acupuncture treatment she would have had a caesarean section.

Several other patients I have treated in the last four years here in Georgia have had Bell’s Palsy, and acupuncture has helped their faces to go back to normal.

Acupuncture can help things like allergies, menstrual disorders, menopausal symptoms, fertility problems, anxiety, depression, auto-immune disorders, and many more things.

One of my teachers when I was in school told about a patient, he had who was quadriplegic. My teacher said that when the patient arrived, he said to my teacher, “My body is perfect the way it is, my mind is fine, I am here because I need a little help for my spirit.”

Spirit! The Nei Jing, which is volumes of Chinese medicine written down during the time of the Yellow Emperor in Chine (about 200 BC), talks a lot about treating the spirit. It is understood that each acupuncture point has a name and a “spirit” associated with it. For instance, the point in the very center of the palm of the hand is called “The Palace of Weariness”. The spirit of that point is a place for the weary person to receive refreshment and revitalization. When the Chinese talk about a Palace they are referring to the Emperor or God (words they use interchangeably). So this Palace is where God/Emperor is waiting and watching the road for the weary traveler. God/Emperor runs out to meet the weary traveler on the road and brings them into the palace where they are given refreshment and sent on their way completely rejuvenated. When I use that point for someone who is tired of the struggles of life, it has that refreshing effect on them.

So, if you are suffering from anything (including pain) don’t hesitate to bring it up when you see me. I personally have acupuncture every 6 weeks, after 36 years of getting treatment. It balances my energy, addresses my spirit and emotions, and, yes, it helps physical issues too. Am I in perfect health? No, of course not, but I couldn’t begin to list or even know all the things I may have avoided because of 36 years of acupuncture treatment. I love receiving it, and I also love the privilege of treating each and every one of you.

Enjoy your summer, drink lots of water, eat lots of fresh food and come in for your acupuncture.
