It’s been a busy start to 2025 for our Moving forward with Parkinson’s support group.
At our January meeting, we discussed what interests members have in relation to obtaining more knowledge from a speaker on that topic. We also talked about all of the events that APDA has in the upcoming months, and made sure that the 2025 Optimism Walk in Farmington is on everyone's calendar.
In February, we welcomed Kimberly Quinn from Fox Rehabilitation who discussed occupational therapy and Parkinson’s. An informative question and answer period followed and members were happy to hear how occupational therapy can help in our daily struggles with Parkinson’s.
On March's schedule, we continued our Luncheon Tour at Elizabeth’s Restaurant in East Windsor. About 12 people attended and enjoyed their meals and friendly conversation. The month of May has members craving pizza and a location will be chosen at our May support group meeting.
We also welcomed APDA CT Chapter Program Director Holly Seymour at our support group meeting in March. Holly touched on a variety of topics and welcomed any questions that members had. She was more than willing to share her knowledge.
In April about a dozen members attended the 2nd annual Artisan event in support of all of the up-and-coming artists as well as one of our own. Great paintings, friendship and food were abundant that evening and all for a good cause.
At our April meeting, members heard from 3 different speakers. Travers Curtis from Supernus Pharmaceuticals gave a small presentation on his knowledge of Parkinson’s and certain medications that are available to those living with PD.
Next we heard from Dr. Jessica Hedeman, a Movement Disorder Specialist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She covered important lifestyle topics such as diet, exercise and social interaction. She also discussed with the group motor fluctuations as Parkinson’s Disease progresses.
The support group meeting closed with Parkinson’s patient ambassador Danny G. and his wife Sheila from South Carolina sharing their personal Parkinson’s journey and experiences.
As you can see the Moving Forward With Parkinson’s support group loves acquiring knowledge, loves to socialize, and loves being able to make new friends along the way.
Please join us or follow our page. All people with PD, their caretakers, family and friends are always welcome
