Have you ever had back pain and couldn’t think of anything that caused it?

Sometimes pain results from the things we don’t do rather than the things we do!

Maybe your mom was right - and going out in the cold with a wet head is a bad idea!

In today’s Two Minute Tips, Dr. Jennifer Kane talks about how Traditional Chinese Medicine takes into account how the climate around us affects our health.

Just think about how hard your body has to work to keep you warm when it’s freezing out or cool you off when it’s hot outside.

Even when you set your thermostat to your preferred temperature, it can feel as if the cold still seeps into your bones (people with arthritis know this), and those pressure fronts really affect headaches and migraines.

There are specific acupuncture points that help address conditions affected by cold, damp, wind, and heat that I use to help patients with their health concerns.

And…when it’s cold outside, it’s still a good idea to wear a hat…and a scarf…and gloves…and a coat!

A body in motion stays in motion - and one of the keys to getting healthy and staying healthy is moving our bodies.

In today’s Two Minute Tips, Dr. Jennifer Kane demonstrates the first part of the Mindful Movements she does every day:

⭐️ Mindful breath - appreciating the feeling of moving and being aware of the breath.

⭐️ Qigong exercise Shaking the Tree - energizing your body and also noticing how your body feels when you stop.

⭐️ Twists - being sure you are stable because they require some balance.

After you do these Mindful Movements - your heart beats faster, your blood is flowing, your qi is flowing, you are more present…and life is good.

So, just get up, move, and breathe!

Did you enjoy an extra hour of sleep last night and awaken feeling refreshed due to the end of Daylight Savings Time?

If so, lucky you!

But if you awakened at your regular time – now an hour too early – you can use the principles of acupuncture to orient yourself to the new time schedule.

In acupuncture, each of the 12 main meridians (energy pathways) is most active in 2-hour increments. This is called the horary clock.

Problems that occur within each timeframe – including awakening when you don’t want to or having a particular ache or pain – can be helped with the corresponding acupuncture point listed below.

Horary Clock and Corresponding Acupuncture Point
• 3-5 a.m. – Lung 8
• 5-7 a.m. – Large Intestine 1
• 7-9 a.m. – Stomach 36
• 9-11 a.m. – Spleen 3
• 11 a.m.-1 p.m. - Heart 8
• 1-3 p.m. – Small Intestine 5
• 3-5 p.m. – Bladder 66
• 5-7 p.m. – Kidney 7
• 7-9 p.m. – Pericardium 8
• 9-11 p.m. – Triple Heater 6
• 11 p.m.-1 a.m. – Gallbladder 41
• 1-3 a.m. – Liver 1

To use the horary point to reset your clock, simply hold the acupuncture point for the new time setting.

When I awakened at 4 am. this morning rather than the usual 5 a.m., I applied pressure to Lung 8.

See the pictures in the comments below for the points to use between 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. so you can use the horary clock to help you adapt to the new time schedule!
