The magic of Halloween is evident with spooky spiders, ghosts, and black cats in prominent view. It is the most magical time of the year when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest. It is the time of Halloween and ghosts and goblins and a wonder that transforms ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter: The Celts believed that the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest during Samhain, and that the souls of the dead would return to visit their homes. To ward off evil spirits, people would light bonfires on hilltops and wear masks and disguises.

In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a day to honor all saints. The evening before, known as All Hallows Eve, eventually became Halloween. American colonists, many of whom were Puritans from England, brought Halloween to the United States.
