Here is a message from Doris, in her own words:

I’m Doris E. Reed, L.Ac. As a practicing acupuncturist, I’ve devoted my practice to helping people feel better, live with more ease, and reconnect with their natural sense of balance. Acupuncture has been a part of my life’s journey for many years, and I love being able to share this medicine with my community. For me, it’s not just about addressing symptoms, but about listening to your story, understanding what you need, and creating a healing space where you can relax and feel cared for.

Over the years, I’ve worked with people seeking relief from pain, stress, and health challenges of all kinds. What inspires me most is watching the small but powerful shifts that happen—when someone takes a deeper breath, feels their shoulders drop, or begins to move through life with a little more comfort and lightness. I believe healing is a partnership, and I consider it an honor to walk alongside my clients on their path to greater well-being.

Born in Colorado, my family and I soon moved to the Pacific Northwest. I spent the remaining years in various areas of Washington. After working 23 years as a typesetter, I decided to change my career. I studied at Grays Harbor College and Bastyr University, obtaining my Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2008. My practice is located in Aberdeen, Washington; and more recently in Elma. When I am not helping clients experience a greater sense of well-being, I can be found in my garden or joining my wonderful husband at the beach. Outside of the office I volunteer with the Ocosta Recreation Hall. I enjoy hiking, cooking, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and yoga.

Self-Care vs. Surgery: Why Prevention Matters

When we think of self-care, we often picture bubble baths, journaling, or a quiet walk in nature. And while those are all wonderful, true self-care also means preventative maintenance—taking care of our bodies so they don’t break down in the first place.
Too often we ignore the little aches, the stiffness, the tension that keeps showing up until it snowballs into something bigger—an injury or even the need for surgery. While surgery can sometimes be life-changing and necessary, it’s not without consequences. Every surgical procedure creates scar tissue. That scar tissue can limit range of motion, create stiffness, and even cause chronic pain down the road.
The truth is: prevention is always easier than repair. Regular massage, PEMF, stretching, strengthening, hydration, balanced nutrition, and mindful movement can keep your body functioning the way it was designed to. These small daily habits support your muscles, joints, and overall health—so you’re less likely to face invasive procedures later.
Think of your body like a car: routine maintenance (oil changes, tire checks, tune-ups) keeps it running smoothly for years. Skip that care, and eventually you’re paying for a full engine rebuild.
Your health works the same way. Invest in preventative care now, and your body will thank you for decades to come.
