FAT LOSS VS WEIGHT LOSS
What's the difference?
And which should you be aiming for?
If your only goal is weight loss ie the number on the scale, then you risk not just losing some fat, but also muscle.
Your weight (what the scale says) is purely your relation to gravity at any given time.
The scales aren't going to make your jeans fit any better.
The scales won't give you more energy, make you feel good, etc.
When trying to slim down, in an ideal world we want to lose fat, and preserve as much muscle as possible.
Therefore, we want to aim for 'fat loss' over 'weight loss'.
Fat is the inches.
If you take the right approach to fat loss, you can improve other areas such as fitness, strength, sports performance, and overall health.
However, if you crash diet to achieve weight loss your fitness, strength, and sports performance could suffer, as could your
overall health.
If you're using scales, use other tools as well such as progress photos, measurements, and lovely comments from
people you haven't seen for a while!
