Millions of people with disabilities rely on Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) to live in their homes and be part of their communities. These services help pay for direct support professionals, daily care, and the support people need to live healthy lives in their own communities.

But after the biggest Medicaid cuts in history last year, many states are now struggling to make up for lost funding, which could mean longer waiting lists and less access to these critical services. And now, Congress is considering more cuts!

This morning, our CEO Salvatore Garozzo, and Director of Marketing and Community Development, Missy Smith, had the opportunity to attend a special rally alongside Governor Kathy Hochul and fellow community leaders from across the Southern Tier.

During the event, Governor Hochul outlined key priorities aimed at making New York more affordable and strengthening support for working families. She spoke to her state budget plan, which focuses on expanding housing opportunities, reducing auto insurance costs, advancing a path toward universal child care, and addressing energy affordability by pushing back against rising utility costs impacting families statewide. We applaud the Governor's efforts to make New York more affordable but continue to remain laser focused on the need for a 4% Targeted Inflationary Increase.

As we continue to advocate for our staff and the people we support, we remain committed to engaging in these critical conversations and building relationships with leaders who influence policy and funding decisions. Being included in today’s event reinforces that our voice, and the needs of those we serve, are being recognized at the state level.

The Arc Chemung-Schuyler Golf Tournament is back for 2026!
Join us on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Willowcreek Golf Club in Big Flats for an amazing cause on the green. This is a charity tournament, and all benefits will go to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler.
9AM - Team player check in.
10AM - Shotgun start.
4PM - Awards and Dinner.
Four-player scramble format.
The entry fee is $400 per foursome, or $100 per player, and includes entry into a putting contest with a chance to win $10,000, along with the opportunity to sink a hole-in-one on a par-3 for a chance to win $25,000, a bucket of balls at the driving range before the tournament, a hot dog at the turn, and a chicken BBQ dinner after the tournament.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Laurie DeNardo, Mayor of Watkins Glen, who was a longtime supporter and friend of The Arc Chemung-Schuyler. Laurie, alongside her family, demonstrated a deep commitment to our mission and to the people we support.

Her dedication to creating a more inclusive community was evident in all she did, including her efforts to ensure the playground at Clute Park in Watkins Glen was ADA accessible, opening the door for children of all abilities to play and belong.

Laurie had also generously agreed to serve on The Arc’s new Foundation Board of Directors, reflecting her ongoing belief in and support of our work.

We are grateful for Laurie’s compassion, leadership, and lasting impact. She will be deeply missed.
