Did you know? The first modern crematory in the United States was built in 1876 by physician and philanthropist Dr. Francis LeMoyne in Washington, Pennsylvania. Before it closed in 1901, nearly 50 people had been cremated there during its 25 years of operation.

A while back we noticed a few neighbors had some concerns about inconsiderate dog-walkers leaving poop-bags on the side of the road and walking paths in our beautiful local cemeteries. We reached out to our friends at Woodlawn Cemetery and came up with a plan to hopefully make it easier for folks to 'take care of business'. We are happy to have donated these fancy new 'waste-stations' which have been installed near the three entrances to the cemetery. We'll continue to support the effort by providing the bags going forward, and are working with the folks at St. Peter and Paul's cemetery to get this set up there as well!

Our Story

For over 70 years, we have had the incredible honor of serving the families of our community. Beginning in 1946, our founders, Robert L. and Louise Olthof, felt the calling to provide Elmira with dignified and memorable funeral services that truly honored their loved ones. Three generations of Olthofs later, and we are still proudly helping those to celebrate and tell the stories of lives well lived.

We understand that when you come to us, you are going through one of life’s most difficult moments. That is why it is our goal to treat each and every family as if they were our own. Whatever type of tribute you choose, we will be here alongside you every step of the way. Our ministry does not end either when your loved one’s service is over.
