⚠️ A Tornado Watch is in effect for New Castle County, DE, until 7 PM this evening, Monday, March 16, 2026. Our region is currently under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms.
Primary Threats: Widespread damaging winds (gusts over 60 mph) and brief, fast-forming tornadoes are possible.
Secondary Hazards: Isolated hail and localized flash flooding from intense rainfall.
Severe Weather Window: Conditions are expected to deteriorate this afternoon, with the highest risk between 2 PM and 11 PM.
Peak Concern: The 5 PM to 7 PM window is most critical as a squall line moves through.
Wind Advisory: Outside of storms, southerly wind gusts of 35–45 mph (up to 50 mph) are expected.
Stay Alert: Monitor weather updates closely as conditions can change rapidly.
Shelter: Be prepared to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor immediately if a warning is issued.
Impacts: Expect potential power outages, downed trees, and travel disruptions.
