Final Day: Completing the Road to Hope

Today marked the final day of support operations alongside Honor 37 during the Law Enforcement United “Road to Hope” ride.

The day began in Bethany Beach, Delaware, and concluded at the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department after another long and meaningful stretch of roadway shared between riders, support crews, and the communities that welcomed them along the way.

Unlike the warm and calm conditions of previous days, today’s ride brought periods of heavy rain that significantly increased the difficulty for the cyclists and support teams alike. Even in the challenging weather, the determination of the riders never wavered. The route carried the team through the countryside of Delaware and Maryland, providing a noticeable change in scenery from the coastal communities of New Jersey and Delaware that marked the earlier portions of the ride. The quieter rural landscapes seemed to offer an opportunity for reflection as the journey neared its conclusion.

Despite the rain and difficult conditions, community support remained constant. Residents, volunteers, and public safety personnel continued to come out along the route to encourage the riders and support the mission. That support serves as an important reminder that the mission of Law Enforcement United reaches far beyond any single agency, discipline, or community.

One of the strongest takeaways from these past several days has been the reminder that all members of the public safety profession share a common bond. Whether law enforcement, EMS, fire service, dispatch, emergency management, or support personnel, we all understand the sacrifices that come with serving others. We stand beside one another during difficult moments, honor those we have lost, and continue supporting the families and survivors who carry those losses every day.

Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS is proud to have partnered with Western Berks Ambulance Association in supporting Honor 37 and the mission of Law Enforcement United throughout this journey. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a mission built on remembrance, service, and unity across the entire public safety community.

Day 2: Continuing the Road to Hope

Day 2 of the Law Enforcement United “Road to Hope” ride brought another meaningful and memorable day alongside the riders of Honor 37.

Our teams departed southern New Jersey this morning and continued south toward the Delaware beaches. Under beautiful skies and unusually warm spring weather, the day carried a solemn but uplifting atmosphere that seemed to perfectly match the spirit of the mission. The combination of quiet reflection, camaraderie, and community support made for a truly memorable day for everyone involved.

One of the most significant moments of the day came in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where the riders stopped to honor the local 9/11 memorial. It was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that continue to inspire the mission of Law Enforcement United and Honor 37. Moments like these reinforce that the Road to Hope is far more than a long-distance bicycle ride. It is a tribute to service, sacrifice, remembrance, and the enduring bond shared across the public safety community.

The journey also included crossing the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, giving riders and support crews a brief opportunity to pause, reflect, and appreciate the day before continuing onward.

Throughout the route, communities once again welcomed the riders and support personnel with tremendous kindness and encouragement. The hospitality shown at each stop continues to demonstrate how deeply this mission resonates with so many people.

Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS remains proud to partner with Western Berks Ambulance Association in supporting Honor 37 and the mission of Law Enforcement United. We are grateful to be part of an effort that honors the fallen while supporting the survivors and families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

Day 1: Supporting the Road to Hope

Today marked Day 1 of the Law Enforcement United “Road to Hope” ride.

Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS is honored to partner with Western Berks Ambulance Association in providing EMS support to Honor 37, the New York Division of Law Enforcement United. Law Enforcement United is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and remembering the survivors they leave behind. Their efforts support programs including The Road to Hope, Concerns of Police Survivors, and the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Honor 37 was named in memory of the 37 Port Authority Police Officers killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. The chapter rides from the 9/11 Memorial to Washington, D.C. during Police Memorial Week in honor of fallen law enforcement officers across the nation.

Today, our team met the group of cyclists in Highlands, New Jersey. Over the course of five legs, we traveled with them through dozens of small communities before ending the night in Southern New Jersey. Representing EHBEMS were EMTs Miller and Welch, Lt. Fina, and Chief Welch.

At every stop, the mission of this ride was clear. This is not simply a bicycle ride. It is a moving tribute to sacrifice, service, family, and remembrance. The warmth shown by the communities along the route was a powerful reminder that the fallen are not forgotten, and neither are the families, friends, partners, and agencies who continue to carry their memory forward.

We extend our sincere thanks to the hosts at each rest stop for their kindness, hospitality, food, water, encouragement, and support. Your efforts helped sustain the riders, support teams, and mission throughout the day.

EHBEMS is proud to play a small role in supporting this meaningful cause, and we are grateful to stand alongside Western Berks Ambulance Association, Honor 37, and Law Enforcement United as they continue the Road to Hope.

Happy Nurses Week!

As we recognize National Nurses Week, all of us at Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS want to extend our sincere appreciation to the nurses who care for our communities every day.

Nursing is not an easy profession. It demands long hours, compassion in difficult moments, constant attention to detail, and the ability to provide comfort and care during some of the hardest days in a person’s life. Nurses are often the steady hand and reassuring voice patients and families remember long after an emergency has passed.

In EMS, we have the privilege of being there at the beginning of many emergencies. We meet people on the worst days of their lives, provide care in the field, and bring them safely to the hospital. From that point forward, our patients are placed into the caring and capable hands of nurses who continue that treatment, advocacy, and support.

The work between EMS and nursing is deeply connected. Good patient care does not stop at the hospital door. It continues because of the dedication, professionalism, and compassion shown by nurses in emergency departments, intensive care units, inpatient floors, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, physician offices, schools, and throughout every corner of healthcare.

To every nurse who serves our communities: thank you for your skill, your patience, your resilience, and your kindness. We are grateful for the partnership we share and for the care you provide to our patients each and every day.

Happy Nurses Week from all of us at Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS.

Free NARCAN Available

Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS has long been committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our residents and those in the surrounding communities. In addition to providing emergency medical services, EHBEMS continues to serve as a community partner in addressing the ongoing opioid crisis across Pennsylvania.

Through our partnership with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, EHBEMS provides Narcan (naloxone) free of charge to community members who may need it. This lifesaving medication is available to individuals and families, as well as local businesses, faith-based organizations, and other community groups who want to be prepared in the event of an opioid overdose emergency. At this time, we are the only EMS agency in Chester County participating in this program and are able to serve the broader region.

As opioid-related emergencies continue to rise, we are renewing our efforts to ensure this resource is readily available, particularly for those who may be most at risk. Our goal is to provide support, education, and access without judgment. We believe every life is important and deserves the opportunity for intervention and recovery.

If you or someone you know would benefit from having Narcan available, please visit our Elverson station at 4458 Main Street, Elverson, PA 19520, or contact Battalion Chief Ostrowski at 610-286-8925, option 3, for more information. Narcan is available at no cost, with no questions asked.

Together, we can help save lives.

Career Fair

On April 10th, Battalion Chief Ostrowski, Chief Welch, and EMT Grace McCarthy participated in the annual Career Fair at Daniel Boone High School. What made this event especially meaningful was Grace’s unique perspective—serving not only as an EMT with EHBEMS, but also as a current student at the school. This allowed her to connect with her peers on a more personal level, offering firsthand insight into what it takes to earn an EMT certification while still in high school. She spoke in depth about the value of volunteerism, balancing academic responsibilities with training, and the opportunities for growth within EMS, including her goal of becoming a crew chief in the future.
EHBEMS would like to thank Daniel Boone High School for once again welcoming us to be part of this impactful event. Career fairs like this serve as a vital bridge between education and real-world opportunities, giving students direct access to professionals who can share honest experiences and practical guidance. By engaging students early, we help them better understand the pathways available to them—whether that means entering the workforce shortly after graduation or continuing their education in the medical field.
EHBEMS remains committed to supporting and mentoring the next generation. By fostering curiosity and providing accessible entry points into emergency medical services, we aim to empower young individuals to pursue meaningful careers. Many students at this stage of life are at a pivotal decision-making point, and exposure to EMS can spark a lifelong passion for helping others. Whether they choose to remain in EMS or advance into fields such as paramedicine, nursing, or other healthcare professions, these early experiences can play a critical role in shaping their future.

Vehicle Rescue Horseshoe Pike

On April 7th, units from Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS and Honey Brook Fire Company were dispatched to the 2200 block of Horseshoe Pike for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.

While en route, Chief 33 received updated information indicating that a vehicle was on its side against a residence, with one occupant trapped. The incident was further complicated by a downed utility pole, with wires lying across the roadway and in close proximity to the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Chief 33 confirmed the reports and established command. Due to the confirmed entrapment, additional resources, including Tower Medic 93, were requested to assist.

Through coordinated efforts between EMS and fire personnel, crews safely extricated the patient from the vehicle. The patient was assessed, treated on scene, and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Elverson Honey Brook Area EMS extends its appreciation to Tower Medic 93 and the volunteers of Honey Brook Fire Company for the continued partnership and dedication in serving the community.
