Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital extends its heartfelt thanks to the incredible first responders who acted swiftly and professionally during this morning’s incident at the hospital. Special recognition goes to Fire Chief Dave Marshall and firefighter Kristen Zobitz for their leadership, communication, and quick action. We are also deeply grateful to the Ely, Babbitt, and Morse/Fall Lake Fire Departments, Ely Police Department, and Ely Area Ambulance for their outstanding support. Your dedication keeps our community safe, and we couldn’t do it without you!

At approximately 6:15 this morning (1/13/26), there was a report of smoke from the Lab and, subsequently, the Emergency Department areas of Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital (EBCH). Our team immediately activated the fire plan, and neither our patients nor the residents of Boundary Waters Care Center were impacted. EBCH remained open for business, including the Emergency Department. Visitors are welcome, and all scheduled appointments will proceed as planned. We are grateful for our quick-acting staff and the community emergency responders who assisted.
