The creator of The Tiger Who Came to Tea and other beloved children's books, Judith Kerr, was once asked how she was able to create books with so much innocence despite the challenges of her own childhood.

She replied, “Well, stories are a huge comfort when things are bad.”

Kerr and her family had to leave Germany to escape the N***s in 1933 and spent several years moving around before settling in Great Britain, where they experience the Blitz and other impacts of WWII.

Adults 21+ can learn more about Kerr and other children's book creators at Let's Take a Dive this Friday, August 29 at 5 p.m.

When Dacia White became a young single mom, a friend told her about Parents as Teachers. “A wonderful Parent Educator came to my house,” said Dacia. “She encouraged me to take my 1-year-old daughter to an eye doctor. With glasses, she was reading by age 3.” That positive experience inspired Dacia to become a Parent Educator.

“We do developmental screenings, connect parents to resources, and support parents through challenges. It’s so rewarding when they go from ‘We haven’t seen him do that’ to ‘Look: He can do it!’ They get so excited when they know what to watch for and help kids reach milestones.”

To be good Parent Educator, Dacia says, “You must be adventurous and flexible, but I love never knowing what I’m going to get.”
