Mom..mother..mama! Happy mother's day. Thank you, for your kind and loving words this morning. Thank you, for being my mom, thank you, for giving me and Ryan the gift of life, that's pretty freaking powerful to say the least. Because of you, you made so many things possible for us.
I want to share something with you. In the Somatic attachment therapy program I am in, we did an exercise in our practice sessions where you guide a client to think of a memory that made/makes them feel safe. In summary, the goal of this practice is to get your client to move out of trauma, away from traumatic memory/story and bring the embodied presence of safety back into their bodies.
YOU were the first person that came to me, my first memory of safety. I can remember sucking my thumb, sitting next to you, touching your warm skin, feeling your heart beating, knowing that you were my mom...it made me feel so safe. When you would rub your fingers through my hair, rub my back to put me to sleep or hold my hand when I would sleep next to you. Those are feelings that are deeply embedded into the the cellular memory of the heart. (nerd rant-did you know that the heart carries 40,000 memory like cells called sensory neuritis that are separate from the brain? What does this mean? It means that the heart is capable of forming its own memories! Mind blowing.)
Anyways, back to the feeling...it is the feeling that every child, women and man craves, and I believe we crave that heart memory of mother until our dying day. I am sure you feel that way about your mother and I am sure dad feels that way about his. There is nothing like a "mother's love."
You gave me so much love, mom! Today, I celebrate you. Thank you, for the love, nurturing and support you gave me. Thank you, for teaching me to always be true to myself, thank you, for teaching me to stand for what I believe in. Thank you, for not only showing me but leading by example of what a hard working successful women/mother looked like. You worked your ass off for all of us, for your family. You put yourself through college while you had 2 little kids. CONTINUED BELOW ⏬
