Building a Connection With Your Baby? Start Small 💛

Bonding doesn’t always happen instantly—and that’s okay. It takes time, especially when you’re tired, healing, and adjusting to a whole new world.

Here are a few gentle ways to nurture connection:

👶 Spend Time Together
Hold them. Cuddle. Just be near. Your presence matters more than perfection.

🎶 Sing or Read Aloud
Your voice is soothing, even if you’re off-key or reading the same book for the fifth time today.

🕊️ Give Yourself Grace
It’s normal not to feel that magical bond right away. You’re not doing it wrong—you’re doing your best.

✨ Connection grows in quiet moments. Be patient with yourself—you and your baby are getting to know each other.

📍 At Headway Therapy, we support parents through all stages of the postpartum journey—emotions and all.

How to Help a Loved One with Depression 💛

Watching someone you care about struggle with depression can feel heartbreaking—and sometimes helpless. But your support does make a difference.

Here are 3 meaningful ways to show up:

👂 1. Be There, Really There
You don’t need to “fix” it. Just listen. Sit with them. Let them know they’re not a burden and that their pain is valid.

🧠 2. Encourage Professional Help
Gently suggest therapy or talking to a doctor. Offer to help them find a therapist or go with them to that first appointment.

🕊️ 3. Be Patient
Healing takes time. Some days will be harder than others. Stay consistent, kind, and present—even if progress feels slow.

✨ Your presence is powerful. Keep showing up.

Living with a Mood Disorder? 💬 You’re not alone.

Mood disorders—like depression or bipolar disorder—can make everyday life feel unpredictable. But there is a path forward. Here are 4 ways to care for yourself or someone you love:

🧠 1. Seek Professional Support
Therapy and medication can be game-changers. Getting help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Understanding your condition can give you clarity, language, and power to manage it more effectively.

🤝 3. Build Your Support Network
Surround yourself with people who listen, validate, and show up. Whether it’s friends, family, or a support group—connection is healing.

🎨 4. Do What You Love (Even a Little)

Feeling low? Start here. 💛
Depression can feel like quicksand—but small, steady steps can help shift the weight. Here are 5 gentle practices that support your mental health:

🌿 1. Practice Mindfulness
Even 5 minutes of deep breathing or stillness can calm your nervous system and create space between you and your thoughts.

🏃‍♀️ 2. Move Your Body
You don’t need a gym. A short walk, stretching, or dancing in your kitchen—movement boosts mood and lowers stress.

🛌 3. Prioritize Sleep
Depression and sleep are deeply connected. Try to keep a consistent bedtime, even on weekends.

🫶 4. Lean on Your People
Text a friend. Join a support group. Let someone in. You don’t have to do this alone.

🥗 5. Fuel with Care
Nourishing your body helps your brain. Aim for balanced meals (and yes, chocolate counts in moderation 🍫).

✨ Depression doesn’t just “go away”—but it can get better. Therapy helps you build tools, process pain, and find hope again.

We’re here when you’re ready.

Feeling anxious in social situations? You're not alone 💛
Social anxiety can make everyday moments—like chatting with coworkers or ordering coffee—feel overwhelming. But here’s the good news: it can get better.

🌱 Try this gentle approach to healing:

✨ Start small: Gradually expose yourself to social settings—one step at a time. Celebrate each win, no matter how tiny.
✨ Build your toolbox: Learn coping skills like deep breathing, grounding, or positive self-talk.
✨ Talk it out: Therapy and support groups can make a world of difference. You don't have to do this alone.
✨ Be kind to yourself: Social anxiety isn’t a flaw—it’s a response. Treat yourself with the same compassion you’d offer a friend.
✨ Explore all options: For some, medication can be a helpful part of healing. There’s no shame in getting support that works for you.

💬 If this sounds like you, we’re here to help. Therapy is a safe space to build confidence and connection—at your own pace.

Postpartum Support: You Deserve It 💛

Bringing a baby into the world is life-changing—and it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed, emotional, or even lost in the process. You’re not alone.

Here are 4 gentle reminders if you’re navigating the postpartum period:

🗣️ Express Your Emotions
Whether you feel joy, exhaustion, sadness, or all three—your feelings are valid. Let them out. You don’t have to hold it all together.

🤱 Find a Support Group
There’s comfort in knowing others feel the same way. Postpartum support groups offer connection, understanding, and real-life tools.

❤️ Talk to Your People
Let your partner, friends, or family know what’s going on inside. You don’t have to pretend to be “fine.”

📣 Communicate Your Needs
Ask for help. Be honest. Tell someone when it’s hard. You’re not weak for needing support—you’re human.

🌿 At Headway Therapy, we specialize in perinatal mental health. If you’re struggling, we’re here to help you feel more like you again.

Supporting a Loved One with Bipolar Disorder 💛

If someone you love is living with bipolar disorder, your support can make a powerful difference — but it’s okay if you’re not sure where to start. Here are 4 compassionate ways to show up for them:
1. Educate Yourself
Knowledge is power. Learn about bipolar disorder so you can better understand their experiences — the highs and the lows.
2. Encourage Consistency
Gently remind them to stick to their treatment plan (therapy, meds, routines). Consistency is key, even when things feel “fine.”
3. Be Patient & Present
Mood shifts can be tough to witness. Your calm presence and non-judgmental support matter more than you know.
4. Find Your People
Support groups aren’t just for them. Connecting with others who get it can be incredibly grounding for you, too.

❤️ Loving someone with bipolar disorder is not always easy, but your care is a powerful anchor. If you or your loved one needs support, therapy can help.

Motherhood is beautiful—but it can also feel heavy.
If you’re struggling with anxiety, sadness, irritability, or overwhelm, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to keep pushing through in silence. 🤍

Here’s what can help:

🗣️ Talk therapy gives you a safe place to unpack the hard stuff and feel heard without judgment.
👥 Support groups remind you that you’re not the only one feeling this way—and that connection is healing.
💊 Medication may be necessary for some, and that’s okay. There is no one-size-fits-all path to feeling better.

Your mental health matters—just as much as your baby’s.
