Your brain changes when you train.

During intense exercise, your body produces lactate.
That’s not just muscle burn, it’s brain fuel.

Lactate triggers BDNF, a protein that helps grow brain cells, improve memory, and protect against cognitive decline.

It’s not about long workouts. It’s about short effort that counts.

Train smart. Your brain will thank you.

Hey fitness enthusiasts! 🤩

We wanted to share some interesting findings from a recent study that might change the way you approach your pre-workout nutrition. It turns out, what you eat before exercising can have a big impact on your performance, and plant-based foods seem to have the upper hand!

Researchers found that eating a plant-based meal before exercise improved arterial health (think reduced stiffness and better blood flow) and boosted aerobic capacity. In simple terms: better heart health = better performance! 🏃‍♂️💨

The study compared plant-based and animal-based meals with the same protein, fat, and carb content. The plant-based meal reduced arterial stiffness and improved vascular function, leading to a higher oxygen uptake during exercise. Sounds like a win for team veggies, right? 🌿

These findings suggest that plant-based foods might be the way to go if you're looking to maximize your workout efficiency and support your arterial health. If you're looking to optimize your workouts, it might be worth considering what you're eating before hitting the gym.

If you're curious, check out the study on our blog.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Have any of you tried incorporating more plant-based options before your workouts? How did it impact your performance?

Did you know that good blood circulation is essential for brain health?

Understanding the importance of good blood circulation for brain health can help prevent the progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer's disease. Learn how cardiovascular health impacts cognitive function.

This research highlights the crucial role of blood flow in preventing the progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Intracranial arterial stenosis, or the narrowing of major brain arteries, significantly impacts cognitive decline.

In a study of 423 participants with MCI, those with moderate or severe stenosis experienced a faster decline in cognition and daily functioning. Even after adjusting for various factors, significant arterial stenosis was linked to a higher risk of progressing to AD.

Key Takeaway: What helps your cardiovascular system also benefits your brain! 🧠

How Does High-Intensity Interval Training Affect Aging?

Ever wondered if a little exercise could make you younger? A recent study dives into the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on biological age and the results are noteworthy!

Researchers found that just three 23-minute HIIT sessions per week for four weeks can reduce biological age by 3.59 years in sedentary adults aged 40-65. Meanwhile, those who didn’t exercise saw their biological age increase by 3.29 years.

Not only did participants get younger, but they also experienced better body composition and mental health.

Imagine looking and feeling younger with minimal time commitment!

Is Extreme Endurance Exercise Dangerous to Your Health?

A new study has set out to answer this intriguing question by examining the longevity of runners who've clocked a mile in under 4 minutes. (Foukes S., et al., 2024) The researchers hypothesized these elite athletes would outlive the average person.

Using historical data, they tracked the first 200 athletes to achieve this feat, comparing their ages at death (or current age if still alive) with their country's life expectancy.

🔍 Here's what they found:

- Out of 200 runners, 60 had passed away while 140 were still alive.
- On average, these athletes lived 4.7 years longer than expected.
- Runners from the 1950s saw a longevity boost of 9.2 years, those from the 1960s had 5.5 years, and those from the 1970s had 2.9 years.

The study concludes that running a sub-4 minute mile appears to be linked with increased longevity, debunking the myth that extreme endurance exercise might shorten lifespan.
