Friendly Access Sensory Safety Kits

Friendly Access Sensory Safety Kits Life Is Washable, Inc. partners with venues & organizations to bring Friendly Access “Sensory Safety Kits’ to their communities.

(dba The Magic Paintbrush Project) was founded in 2006 with its first workshops being held in partnership with local not for profits. When the workshops gained traction, the organization was formally established in 2008 to sustain program availability. There are very few programs which assist families (caregivers) to interact with therapeutic goals. As a result, it is common that family members do not take an active role in the day to day therapeutic goals of the disabled individual. Our organization was founded to support families and individuals and our programs were developed to meet the identified goals and needs for families with special needs. Our organization proudly delivers our mission through programming known as The Magic Paintbrush Project Workshops (family engagement workshops), Fair Play (adaptive sports) and Friendly Access (sensory safety kits). Our organization effectively provides the tools, materials and opportunity for families to creatively serve an average of 4,750 participants each year.

partners with venues & organizations to bring “Sensory Safety Kits’ to their communities. Loud noises and bright lights can make it difficult or confusing for an individual with developmental disabilities or dementia to enjoy an event. Friendly kits are designed to support individuals of all ages, with a variety of sensory needs, and their families at events such as sports games, concerts and theater. Each kit includes an assortment of useful tools to help individuals enjoy an event with greater comfort. Kits also include identification in the event that an individual is separated from their family at the event. Venue staff is alerted and trained to the program, and can assist individuals in obtaining a kit or throughout the venue as needed. If you are a venue wishing to partner with his program to provide kits, we would be happy to discuss with you, please contact us at jen@magicpaintbrushproject.org!

General information

Friendly Access: Sensible Support for Special Needs A Sensory Support program for individuals with sensory disabilities and their families. We recognize that many families do not, or cannot, attend community events such as sports games, concerts and theater as a family due to a family member’s sensory sensitivity and needs. While many venues are considered “ADA Complaint” disabilities such as Autism, Dementia or Traumatic Brain Injury often do not affect an individual’s mobility, so needs are less recognizable. For an event to be fully accessible, for all needs, an adaptive tool for sensory needs is required. Friendly Access delivers Sensory Safety Kits to performance and sports venues. These kits are meant to support individuals of all ages with sensory needs (i.e. Autism, Neurological Impairment, Dementia, etc.) as they enjoy the event. Venue staff will be trained on supporting a kit user (as identified via sticker or ID Wristband) and kits will be easily available. Each kit will include: • A small drawstring bag • A pair of noise reducing ear covers & ear plugs • A pair of antiglare glasses • A small "fidget" toy • A communication card • Sanitizing wipes & tissues • Identification wristbands, stickers and card. The wristband can note family’s location and contact number in the case of confusion or separation. The sticker can alert other attendees that the individual have some difficulty • Venue Map, citing locations of quiet accessible areas, family restrooms, elevators, and emergency plans and exits • Event schedule (as available) so families know exactly what to expect during their time at the event. • Coupons and other promotions for upcoming sensory friendly events • Directions for recycling, return and drop off of the kit. Funding provides Sensory Safety Kits to individuals and families in need of kits and to venues locally (Southern Tier of New York). Kits can be picked up at the Fan Zones and Guest Service Areas. When required, volunteers can table events with a provided Tabling Kit for venues. Kits are easily recyclable with venue drop off points and instructions for return. Kits are returned to Life Is Washable, Inc. where they are sanitized, re-stocked as needed and returned to the venue. A venue can request kits for specific events and the information provided to the family can be personalized or branded to the venue and event. Venues such as arenas, events centers, live theaters, museums, agencies and schools, can purchases kits from Life Is Washable, Inc. for their use. We collaborate with the American Special Hockey Association (55 ASHA Teams) and the Jim & Juli Boeheim Foundation (Syracuse) to extended communities. Based on the success of our pilot year (2015/2016) and requests for kits. Friendly Access will continue to be successful with a significant opportunity for growth. We will sustain the program through additional grants, sales and increased community support as the program becomes more visible in our communities. This product is Trademarked and Copyrighted
