Residents enjoyed an engaging and educational presentation by Jeff Smith, naturalist and board member of the Waterman Conservation Education Center

His talk, “What’s Up With the Trees?” 🌲🌳, sparked curiosity and conversation as residents learned more about the trees around us and the important role they play in our environment.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for the world just outside our doors!

Residents celebrated with a fun “Taste the Rainbow” party, enjoying a variety of snacks and drinks along with trivia, laughter, and great company. 🌈✨ It was a joyful day filled with festive spirit as everyone came together to mark the occasion.

🐾 Residents and staff recently enjoyed a special visit from Dakota from the Animal Care Sanctuary!

Dakota made her way around, greeting everyone, bringing plenty of tail wags, cuddles, and smiles along the way. Animal visits like these are always a highlight, creating moments of comfort, connection, and joy for our residents.

Officials say 10 non-profit nursing homes in New York state have closed in the last two years.

🚨 The nursing home funding crisis in New York State is REAL and it’s impacting families right here in the Southern Tier.

Good Shepherd Communities recently hosted a press conference to bring attention to the growing crisis facing nursing homes. Chronic underfunding is threatening access to care for older adults, forcing some families to send loved ones 50–100 miles away for the care they need.

We are grateful to Senator Lea Webb, Donna Lupardo, and LeadingAge New York for standing with us and advocating for meaningful change. Their leadership helps amplify the urgent need to fully fund nursing home care and protect access for seniors across our region.

Thank you as well to our incredible staff, residents, and community members who continue to raise their voices and support this important cause. Together, we must protect nursing home capacity, support caregivers, and ensure seniors can age with dignity close to home.

🛑 Stop the crisis. Stop the closures. It’s time to fully fund nursing home care.

Thank you, Senator Lea Webb, for advocating for our residents and residents throughout Broome County to protect nursing home capacity, support caregivers, and ensure seniors can age with dignity.

I joined Good Shepherd, LeadingAge New York, families, and caregivers to highlight the urgent need to invest in nursing home care in Broome County. Chronic underfunding puts local facilities at risk, and when beds close, families face longer distances for care, hospitals experience discharge delays, and our community’s healthcare system feels the strain. I will continue fighting in Albany to protect nursing home capacity, support our caregivers, and ensure seniors can age with dignity.

Our residents had a heartwarming visit from some very special four-legged friends! 🐶 The therapy dogs brought joy, comfort, and plenty of tail wags, reminding us all of the simple happiness pets can bring.

We were honored to have Associate Director Dr. Sharon Bryant visit and present to our residents, sharing her reflections on the Binghamton Freedom Trail. Through her storytelling, our residents explored the rich history of courage, resilience, and the fight for freedom—learning about heroes like Harriet Tubman and the important role Binghamton played in the journey toward justice.
