September 12th, it was a Thursday evening, Erik sent me a message. “I'm watching the new HBO documentary The Lost Tapes about Elizabeth, and I had to pause it when Rick Vito appeared on screen with Liz, reminding me of when we arrived at Disneyland in '73, now I'm hoping I'll make the cut with just an hour left to go.” And proceeded to send me picture of him and Elizabeth Taylor. It was messages like this that I would get that just made me in awe of him.

Stories of playing with Waylon Jennings, to sharing a trailer with Jimi Hendrix to having Paul Rothschild produce albums.

And than there was his bodywork career!!! Erik brought our big little community together in ways that nobody could, he changed countless therapists lives as well as many others. He was just the best, and I love him so fu**in much

When I first discovered him in 2007, I just had to immerse myself into his body of work. Sharing a stage with the legend is a dream come true; he means the world to me. I’ll forever cherish our talks, our walks in Costa Rica, playing live music during a seminar!!!! Our texts, but most importantly I’ll never forget him.

Erik was a mentor, a friend and like a second father to me. I’m heartbroken for my colleagues, Kim, his daughter Adrienne, Jason and his family. The ffpi staff and the world of bodywork.

Seeing everyone’s posts and memories is just unreal, and a testament to him.

The king is gone, but he’s not forgotten. I love ya Erik

Let’s hear it for Clayton Leinneweber, our newest Master Myoskeletal Therapist…. congratulations!!!

“I’ve always been drawn to healthcare, and originally, I thought nursing was the path for me. But as I neared the end of nursing school, I realized that while it’s a meaningful profession, I wanted something more hands-on—something that focused on preventative care and could help people avoid the need for surgery. I wanted to help people maintain their health in a way that promoted long-term well-being, not just treat symptoms.

While exploring other options, I came across a massage therapy school, and that’s when my journey into therapeutic bodywork began. After completing the massage program and becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist, I quickly realized that offering relaxation massages wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to make a bigger impact. I knew there was more I could do to help my clients, and I started looking for ways to deepen my knowledge and skill set.

Learning and growing as a therapist is something I’m truly passionate about. That’s when I discovered Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, and it immediately resonated with me. I loved the idea of helping people with chronic discomfort and pain find relief by restoring balance to the body’s structure. I decided to dive deep into Erik’s courses, eager to learn everything I could about this incredible bodywork system.

Becoming a certified MMT has completely transformed how I approach my work. While good technique is important, knowing how and when to apply it intelligently is what has really set me apart as a therapist. I’m excited to continue learning and growing in this field. I can’t wait to keep using this powerful system to help my clients heal and thrive!”

Let’s hear it for Lydia Clark, our newest Master Myoskeletal Therapist® …congratulations!

“Over the past 20+ years, I’ve immersed myself in holistic health, massage, and home healthcare. My journey into the world of massage started in childhood, watching my mom struggle with rib pain due to her hyperkyphotic thoracic spine. She often turned to me for relief between chiropractic visits, and that’s when I first discovered the power of touch.

Fast forward to 1997: I was a cosmetologist juggling facials, manicures, and pedicures when I stumbled upon reflexology and became fascinated with human anatomy. As I worked with clients, I noticed something incredible — massage wasn’t just a luxury; it truly enhanced the client’s physical and emotional well-being.

In 2002, everything changed when I met David Clinger, a teacher of MAT from Erik Dalton’s Freedom From Pain Institute. His insights into how faulty movement patterns can lead to muscle and joint pain reshaped my perspective on bodywork. This was the spark that ignited my passion for Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques®.

Suddenly, I was diving deep into the science of movement, becoming a self-proclaimed bodywork nerd who loved analyzing and thinking outside the box.

Completing the 210-hour Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT) program has fueled my determination to help clients regain functional mobility and live pain-free. Today, every treatment I offer is infused with the principles of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques—it’s the foundation of my approach.

I was thrilled to attend Erik’s “10th Annual Oklahoma City Workshop”, where I earned my MMT certification and had the chance to connect with Erik and his incredible community of teachers and therapists. I’m excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to share the blessings of this journey with others!”

TIB-FIB FIXATION & KNEE PAIN

One of the primary functions of the tib-fib synovial joint is to help dissipate lower leg torsional stresses during gait. When the knee is extended, the biceps femoris, popliteus, and lateral collateral ligaments provide good joint stability, but with the knee flexed, these connective tissues lose much of their supportive capability. That’s one reason tib-fib injuries are most often seen in sports that involve twisting forces around the knee and ankle, such as football, wrestling, soccer, judo, gymnastics, long jumping, and skiing.

In my non-athletic clients, tib-fib problems typically arise from overuse injuries on jobs that require repetitive activities. Clinically, I’ve found many clients presenting with lateral tib-fib pain from overuse also have an underlying body structure deficit, such as overpronated feet and valgus knees. In these cases, forces accumulate that cannot be properly dissipated or, worse yet, may be misdirected into areas not intended to handle the load, as we will see in the case study presented later in this blog. Let’s hear it for Madison Thompson, our newest Master Myoskeletal Therapist…congratulations!!!

“I have been a massage therapist since 2019. In 2021, I opened my private practice Las Vegas Therapeutic Massage and Stretch, specializing in relieving chronic neck and back pain. My mission is simple; to help my clients hurt less, move better, and return to the activities that bring them joy.

Practicing massage therapy was initially a means to pay my way through college. Those plans quickly changed as I found I had a passion for helping people in an incredibly effective way that goes against the mainstream. After my personal experience with chronic headaches and low back pain, I knew only so well the damaging effects it can have on day-to-day life. Thankfully, the power of massage, stretching, and proper self-care, led me to pain-free days. After feeling these positive results, I became obsessed with helping others who needed relief!

I have invested thousands of dollars in trainings throughout my massage therapy career which has propelled me to be an expert in the field. The most impactful to date have been fascial stretch therapy and Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques®.

I learn something new at every MAT workshop and I’m confident in assisting clients with more complicated pain and postural issues. These techniques have helped my clients to stop chasing their pain and correct many of the underlying postural disorders that can develop over time. Pretty exciting!

As Las Vegas’s expert in massage and stretch therapy, I am confident in my ability to provide relief to those who suffer from chronic neck and back pain. Nothing makes me happier than helping my clients feel relief from pain and get back to their favorite physical activities!

I highly recommend the MMT certification training for any massage therapist who wants to improve their knowledge of the human body and help relieve their client's pain and injury complaints.”

WHEN THE FUNNY BONE AIN’T FUNNY

The ulnar is the most exposed of all nerves and ranks second only to the median nerve (carpal tunnel syndrome) as an arm and hand pain generator. Irritation of the ulnar nerve can present as tingling, pain and numbness in the pinky and ring fingers sometimes in a shocking way as the flexed elbow strikes an object compressing it against bone.

Like a telephone cable, the ulnar nerve passes through a protective tunnel behind the elbow’s medial epicondyle or funny bone forming what is called the ‘cubital tunnel’. When the ulnar nerve is compressed or entrapped, the nerve can tear and become inflamed leading to a variety of symptoms, called Cubital Tunnel Syndrome.

I’ve discovered about eight ulnar nerve entrapment sites beginning in the neck, extending through the thoracic outlet, armpit, and down into the hand. All those entrapment sites are addressed in my “Treating Trapped Nerves” course, and some examples are presented below. You’ll love how easily these routines integrate into your existing massage and bodywork practice, and your clients will be amazed at how quickly they are free of nagging nerve pain emanating from the neck, thoracic outlet, cubital tunnel, and Gyon’s tunnel.
