CCCA is a scarring type of hairloss (alopecia) The cause is multifactorial.. and the result is destruction of hair follicles (shafts on the surface of skin where hair grows through). It can be caused by infections, chemicals, burns or autoimmune disorders. Hair loss due to scarring alopecia may be permanent because it can not grow without healthy hair follicles. I treated this patient with steroid injections, low dose antibiotic, Nizoral shampoo, minoxidil and an antihistamine for related itch.

This pigment loss is called Vitiligo. This happens because immune cells destroy the cells that make pigment (melanocytes). This destruction is considered an autoimmune problem. This wonderful patient is treated with Excimer laser and Opzelura… the results speak for themselves.

Day 1. This patient came to me after trying different acne treatment modalities that have failed. After thoughtful discussion at his first appointment, collectively we decided to move forward with an oral isotretinoin treatment plan. He’s had his preliminary evaluation and blood work and this is day one of his journey to be free of scarring acne. Stay with us to see this young man’s exciting transformation over the next 5-6 months.

Lichen planopilaris (LPP) affects the scalp and hair. It is an inflammatory condition and symptoms may include scaly skin and redness around hair follicles, bald patches, and pain, burning, or itching on the scalp. Tiny, red bumps (papules) may appear around hair clusters. LPP can cause scarring which leads to permanent hair loss. The cause of LPP is unknown. It is thought to be an auto-immune disorder of the hair follicles. Caught early, medical treatment can stop further hair loss. The earlier someone is diagnosed with FFA and starts treatment, the more effective treatment tends to be. The more you know…

So not every mole looks suspicious to the untrained eye… this little guy is a melanoma in situ. Left untreated this mole can metastasize. Luckily this patient has routine skin cancer exams and this was caught super early and easily treatable. Sun season SPF 50+ schedule your skin cancer screen and stay sun safe!

13 year old with eczema of the hands. Because this patient was clearly starting to colonize bacteria due to inflammatory process I added a topical antibiotic gentamicin to the steroid triamcinolone twice daily. Improvement usually follows within one to teo weeks. Hand sanitizer and fragrant soaps make this condition worse.
