"Just Do Kegels" may not be the answer. In fact I just had a patient this week that I told them, "No more kegels". Her kegels were making this worse!
And yes, you read that right. If your pelvic floor muscles are already tight and overactive, adding more contractions (Kegels) is like doing shoulder shrugs when your traps are already in your shoulders. This will lead to more tension — not relief.
In my latest blog, and trying out substack 🤷🏼♀️ I break down:
✔️ What an overactive pelvic floor actually is
✔️ Why symptoms like leaking, pressure, and pain don’t always mean weakness
✔️ Red flags that Kegels might be doing more harm than good
✔️ What to focus on instead (spoiler: it’s all about relaxation and release)
Sometimes you don't need a superhuman powerful pelvic floor —it may need to let go.
