Residents were gifted quite a treat this afternoon to have illustrious author, Foster Hirsch here to discuss his latest book, "Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties: The Collapse of the Studio System, the Thrill of Cinerama, and the Invasion of the Ultimate Body Snatcher—Television!" Albert Poland started us off with a fabulous introduction and then we were transported to 1950s Hollywood- filled with turbulence, dramatic shifts, and the demise of the studio system.

Recently, we were fortunate to have a most fantastic group of pre-professional ballet dancers come and dazzle our residents with their talents! It was a stunning artistic display from Dance for Hope. A huge thank you to Melissa Errico for bringing these wonderful young artists to our community.

On June 12, after 10 weeks of enthusiastic participation in Alvin Ailey: AileyDance for Active Aging, our dedicated and talented residents at the Actors Fund Home got to showcase all their hard work in a culminating event. Beyond just learning the breathtaking choreography of Alvin Ailey, this program has allowed our residents to foster their sense of community, embodiment and artistic expression. With the generous support of pharmaceutical company EISAI, it was a joy to be able to collaborate with the Alvin Ailey organization once more.

Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Let us honor this day of freedom by continuing to work for equality!
