In 2008, a month after my high school graduation, I was on a road trip with my mom to Scottsdale, AZ to attend the National Laser Institute. During that time, I learned everything—from laser hair removal, to spider vein reduction, to tattoo removal.

This one guy came in for a tattoo removal appointment with freshly tattooed cursive taking up his entire chest that read: “MICHELLE.” It was still red, swollen, and raw. We had to turn him away and urge him to wait three months before safely lasering it off. He was pi**ed. I joked, “Or you could just find another girlfriend named Michelle.” 🤷🏽‍♀️
He didn’t laugh.

Headed back to Colorado, I was hyped for my new adventure as a certified laser technician. But after several interviews with medspas—and not meeting their esthetician requirement—I ended up back in school for esthetics. In 2010, I landed my first job in Pueblo, CO working at a medspa and weight loss clinic. It was a pay cut from my call center job that put me through esthetics school, no benefits, a long-ass commute… and Pueblo. But I was pumped to finally get my foot in the door.

I’ll be forever grateful for that doctor taking a chance on me and trusting me to be the esthetician of her medspa. There were many moments of me pulling out old school notes and digging into whatever resources I could find—this was long before YouTube and social media tutorials. My motto? Be conservative with the laser—I’d rather have you come back with no results than come back burned.

So yes, sometimes I did multiple treatments to get clients to their goals—but I never burned anyone. I practiced on myself, my family, my friends, and that gave me real experience working on a wide range of ethnicities and skin tones.

I’ll share more of my laser journey later, but that first gig? It led me to eventually training a handful of doctors on laser physics over the years.

Now, as I welcome a new top-of-the-line laser into my practice, let me be clear:
This ain’t new to me.
I’m extremely confident in my skill set—lasers, all skin tones, and everything in between. I’m excited to share that knowledge with the next generation of estheticians and laser techs.

Randy showed up totally s**tfaced for his scalp microchanneling treatment, and ultimately, we had to call security. 🙄
Although this is extremely rare— clients showing up drunk to appointments— we thought we’d use this as a good opportunity of things to avoid prior to your treatment, and really any treatment dealing with needles.😑👇🏽

⚠️ NO Alcohol Before Treatment—Here’s Why:
Alcohol is a vasodilator. It thins your blood and increases sensitivity, redness, and bleeding—aka, it makes your treatment more uncomfortable and messes with your results. And we don’t play those games here.

👉🏽 I’ve been specifically working with services that deal with needles and blood the last 8 years. Trust me—there’s a method to the madness. And a reason I send you pre-care. So please… read it.

🚫 No alcohol 24–48 hrs before
🚫 No NSAIDs like Advil, Aleve, or aspirin
🚫 No caffeine the morning of (yes, I know you “need” it)
🧴 Come with clean hair—no oils or product
🧢 Don’t wear hats that’ll trap sweat post-treatment
💧 Hydrate like it’s your job

Can you believe these results?! 😱 I’m not going to lie, I was a little annoyed and struggling with pinning her hair back at the last session- it was THICK and HEAVY 😂 having to un-glove and grab more clips 🫠

Here are things you should know about scalp microchanneling:

It’s not for everyone and I will deny treatment if I don’t see fit based on your overall health and medical history.

With that being said, results vary. This is a healthy, young adult, who’s a personal trainer and takes care of herself.

THIS much hair came out on wash day—and I’m not worried at all.
