Homewatch CareGivers of Southwest Denver

Homewatch CareGivers of Southwest Denver Roger and Darby Rhodes were inspired to open their home care agency after caring for Darby's father. Coriden.
(1)

Roger and Darby Rhodes were inspired to open their Southwest Denver homecare agency by their personal experience caring for Darby's father, Dr. Thomas L. They learned firsthand just how challenging it is to care for an elderly parent. Dr. Coriden practiced tender loving care throughout his medical career and signed his patients' casts with his initials "TLC". Now, Dr. Coriden's TLC has been passed on to another generation, as Roger and Darby work alongside their youngest daughter, Natalie, to uphold their family tradition of caring for others. Which is why we truly embrace the notion that our clients, their families, and our Caregivers are an extension of our own family. That is why our motto is proudly "Our Family Caring for your Family".

We were honored by the Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 1106, to come and speak a 2nd time this year. Owner Roger Rhodes, Directors Angela York, and Mindy Sterling were in attendance. Roger was asked to educate the well-attended group on Caregiver Burnout. This was such a meaningful presentation as several of our Veterans experienced this. The talk was a big hit. We learned how impactful it was when Veterans stayed to chat one-on-one. Listening to their stories provided our Staff amazing insights to their care needs. Thank you, Chapter 1106, for your dedication; Welcome Home!

Our Homewatch CareGivers Owner and Director, Roger Rhodes, was honored when asked to address the Vietnam Veterans of America local Chapter #1106 on the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

The VVA’s 3 goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans.

Mr. Rhodes knows the VVA addresses what returning veterans face. He provided an education on scams and exploitations to approximately 80 Veterans and spouses in this very active and growing Chapter, meeting in each month in Greenwood Village.

As we age it can be harder to find time for long self-care rituals. Fortunately, we can implement micro habits which are tiny practices that make a BIG difference. They are easier and more sustainable to integrate into our daily routine

Examples of self-care Micro Habits:
Hydration boost - (1 minute): Hydrate your body, esp. during these hot summer days. Try and add1 extra glass
Stretching breaks - (2-3 minutes): Stretch it out- neck, shoulders, legs.
Power Naps: If possible, take a nap. 15- 20 mins naps are short enough to not make you groggy, improve clarity, and give you energy.
Breathwork - (2 min): Mindful deep breathing has so many benefits and can be done anywhere at any time. Deep breathing brings fresh oxygenated blood to the brain, helps the nervous system regulate, and improves focus.

Start Small, Be Consistent and Build Gradually

Honoring our CareGivers and Clients is important. Our Education Director Mindy has a beautiful voice, here she is singing to one of our CareGivers, along with owner Roger, on bells, wishing them a Happy Birthday. She does this for all our Clients as well, bringing a lot of good cheer their way.

They also provided Free Blood Pressure Checks; Heart Rate and Oxygen Saturation levels. Meanwhile, Marketing Director Mindy Sterling was at the Healthy Aging Expo at the Malley Center. They enjoyed meeting new people – and getting our name out into the community. Malley even had a square dance group come entertain for a bit.

This past Saturday we had a very special training featuring Nicole Brackett, Director of Care Delivery & Quality, from our Homewatch CareGivers corporate office, and our own Mindy Sterling, Education Director. Nicole educated our Caregivers about “Person-Centered Care”- focusing on combatting the loneliness, helplessness, and boredom that often plague us as we age. Mindy presented a moving tribute to the “Power of Music”, and the ways we can use that power to help our clients thrive and enjoy life.

Finally our Owner, Roger Rhodes, spoke about the free care we can provide to Veterans in our community. It was a much needed chance for us to learn together and support one another as a Care Team.

Today is National Caregivers Day, and we could not be more proud to celebrate our phenomenal team of Caregivers here at Homewatch Caregivers of Southwest Denver. We thank our Caregivers for everything they do every single day: everyone they make feel safe, feel heard, feel seen, feel less alone, and feel less stressed because someone else is there to help them carry the burden. For all the many ways they touch and change people’s lives for the better we thank our Caregivers with all our heart!!
