Catalyss Counseling became a business in 2014, with two original partners creating a small group therapy practice. After one of the partners left in 2016 to go to the Peace Corps, Shannon Heers took over as owner and president. At that time Catalyss Counseling was located in the Chase Bank building in Englewood.
In 2018, Shannon Heers relocated Catalyss Counseling to a new office just west and south of the Chase Building, to 750 W. Hampden Ave., while staying in Englewood. In 2019, Catalyss Counseling expanded to become a group practice with the hiring of two additional licensed therapists, Kristen Dammer and Jennifer Kubilus. Catalyss Counseling was now able to provide additional appointment times to the Denver community, including expanded evening and weekend hours.
In 2019, Catalyss Counseling also refined its niche to focus on helping anxious adults change their thinking patterns, caregivers process their stress, and women recover from their trauma. Our other treatment focuses remain depression, stress management/work-related stress, and women’s issues. Our trauma specialist offers EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) treatment for trauma, a non-traditional therapy technique that has shown to be effective in treating past trauma and traumatic events.
In 2020, Catalyss Counseling expanded even further! We hired 2 additional licensed therapists to work with adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and trauma, and now we have a maternal mental health specialist available. We are able to offer services 7 days a week, continuing to offer evening and weekend sessions in addition to daytime hours, for your convenience.
As of March 1st, 2020, Catalyss Counseling is expanding to an additional office, in our current location and suite. This ensures that we can continue to meet client demand for afterhours appointments, and expand our evening hours. Our 2nd office is being furnished right now and should be ready to go in a few days!
Maternal mental health can impact not only the mother, but also child(ren) and family members, in many ways. Because of this, Catalyss Counseling is happy to say that we now specialize in providing maternal mental health treatment! We offer counseling and EMDR treatment for birth trauma, postpartum PTSD, miscarriage and pregnancy loss, postpartum depression, and postpartum anxiety. Kristen Dammer and Jennifer Kubilus are our maternal mental health specialists and have specific training and background in treating women with these important issues.
Our trauma and maternal mental health specialist Kristen Dammer now offers weekend appointments! She has open appointments Saturday mornings from 9am-noon, so if you’re interested in working with Kristen, call us at 303/578-6318 for your free 20-minute phone consultation!
Catalyss Counseling is committed to continuing to provide high quality counseling services during the coronavirus outbreak. If indicated, in lieu of in-person sessions we will be offering secure video sessions instead for those with concerns about leaving their home or who are sick. Please contact your therapist if you are interested in doing a video session in place of your regular counseling session.
Catalyss Counseling is now 100% online! We have moved all of our in-person sessions to online via a secure video platform, and we are no longer seeing anyone in the office at this time. We look forward to resuming in-person counseling when we are able to, but for now all of our current clients and any new clients will have their sessions done online. Online therapy is much the same as FaceTime, Skype, etc. but it is done over a confidential platform. Contact us if you’re needing any additional support during this difficult time, we are taking new clients!
Many people may be intimidated by online counseling, or even wonder how doing video chats in place of in-person sessions will work. Our trained therapists at Catalyss Counseling will make sure you feel comfortable doing online counseling sessions the same way we help you feel comfortable when we are meeting with you face to face. By now many of our clients have tried doing online counseling in place of their traditional in-person sessions, and we have had good feedback about it. If you are nervous about trying online counseling, contact us for a free 20-minute consultation!
Catalyss Counseling is going live! Shannon Heers is doing a weekly Facebook Live where she is talking about tips and tricks to manage yourself, your work, and your family during this difficult time. She will also be interacting with viewers during the live feed. If you missed the Facebook live, you can still view the recording by looking on the Catalyss Counseling page. Hope to see you on our next Facebook Live!
Did you know that we do EMDR at Catalyss Counseling? EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and it is a series of techniques that is primarily used to process trauma but can also be used for anxiety. Our EMDR trained therapists at Catalyss Counseling, Kristen Dammer and Christina Titcomb, are now able to do EMDR online. If you’re interested in how EMDR works or what it is, see our website page EMDR for Trauma Therapy on www.CatalyssCounseling.com.
We are now offering mini-sessions to better fit into your new lifestyle at home. Catalyss Counseling understands that it may be difficult to find an entire hour to yourself in a confidential place in your home to do online counseling, so we are offering 25 minute mini sessions in addition to our usual hourly counseling sessions. We have also added 15 minute check-ins that can be done multiple times a week with your therapist in case you just need a daily wind-down. We see the need to be creative in how we are offering services and hope that one of these new options may work for your schedule!
Did you know that Catalyss Counseling also offers Clinical Supervision services? We have three therapists who are trained and experienced in providing clinical supervision to counselors and social workers in the state of Colorado who are pursuing licensure or who are already licensed. Professional growth for counselors and therapists is so important to stay on top of the field and to get consultation on cases, and we believe that by offering clinical supervision, we are helping to train the new generation of therapists just entering the mental health field. Contact us for more information.
Be sure to listen to our our new Facebook Live on Tuesday at 2:30pm! Shannon Heers will be demystifying online counseling, for those of you that are unsure exactly what it is and how it works. Please join us or, if you’re unable to join us Live, view the recording at your own leisure!

Join us if you have any specific questions, or just listen in to get an idea of what to expect!
Catalyss Counseling continues to offer online counseling only during COVID-19. While we are allowed to do in-person sessions, the governor has strongly recommended that if we are able to continue doing telehealth, we should. If we were to resume in-person sessions at this time, both our therapists and you as a client would be required to be at least 6 feet apart and wear masks. Because we strongly believe that using masks would be counterproductive to creating a strong therapeutic relationship, we are electing to continue with teletherapy only for the time being. Thank you for your understanding, and we are taking new online counseling clients at this time!
If you are pregnant, or just gave birth and your birth experience was not what you expected and you feel emotionally traumatized from it, we can help.
