On Friday, May 8, our team was proud to join the Active Adult Resource Fair in Lakewood to share information that can help older adults stay safe and well. At the event, our trauma coordinator provided fall prevention education, and student pharmacist volunteers discussed medication safety. We also connected with attendees about burn care, cardiology, rehab and emergency care resources available through HCA HealthONE Belmar ER, A part of Swedish.

Falls and medication-related issues can have a serious impact on health, especially for older adults. Learning how to reduce fall risks at home, review medications and know where to go for care can help you take the next step with confidence.

Recovery doesn’t end when a patient leaves the hospital — and Trauma Survivors Day at HCA HealthONE Swedish is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience and human connection that continue long after care is delivered.

Eight survivors returned to reconnect with the physicians, nurses and care teams who supported them through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Traveling from as far away as Florida, survivors shared personal milestones in their recovery journeys, encouraged one another and reflected on how far they have come since leaving the hospital. More than 75 people attended the event, which also included recognition of 10 colleagues for their dedication to supporting survivors and strengthening our trauma program.

Trauma Survivors Day is a meaningful reminder that healing continues long after discharge. Recovery is not only physical — it is emotional, personal and ongoing. For survivors and families, the day offers an opportunity to celebrate progress and reconnect with those who played a role in their journey. For care teams, it is a chance to witness the long-term impact of their work and reaffirm the compassion, expertise and teamwork that define trauma care every day.

This event also reflects who we are as a hospital and how in the community — not only during moments of crisis, but throughout the lifelong journey of healing and recovery.

We are incredibly proud of our trauma team and the exceptional care they provide to every patient and family they serve.

Tick bites can be easy to miss, but they should not be ignored.

As you spend more time outside this season, a few simple steps can help lower your risk of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses:

Use insect repellent as directed.
Wear long sleeves and pants in wooded or grassy areas.
Check your skin, clothing and pets after spending time outdoors.
Remove ticks promptly and carefully.

Watch for warning signs after a bite, including a rash, fever, chills, headache, fatigue, or muscle and joint aches.
