On an ordinary fall afternoon, a Denver-area cyclist set out for a quick ride and never made it to dinner.

On the trail, two strangers noticed something was wrong and acted fast. One started CPR immediately. Another joined in moments later, using fresh CPR training to help keep blood flowing until first responders arrived.

From there, the chain of survival never broke.

Cherry Hills Village Police and South Metro Fire/EMS continued lifesaving care and alerted the emergency department on the way in. At HCA HealthONE Swedish, an ER team was ready at the door — moving as one to continue resuscitation, stabilize the patient, and transition to intensive care.

After 72 hours and an anxious wait for answers, his family heard the words they were hoping for: “He’s in there.” Today, he’s back to the life he loves — and reunited with the people who helped bring him home.

Stories like this remind us: excellent care is a team effort — from bystanders to EMS to hospital specialists — and seconds matter.

For Sandra Kelly, movement has always been a way of life — swimming, running, biking, teaching water aerobics and keeping up with her three boys. Even after learning she had a serious heart condition, she refused to let it slow her down.

When new symptoms started making everyday things like climbing the stairs at home feel hard, Sandra trusted her instincts and came back to the team she knew. After advanced testing, her doctors discovered her pacemaker leads had shifted and scar tissue was affecting her heart function and she needed open-heart surgery. With coordinated care from the HCA HealthONE Aurora cardiovascular team, Sandra was back to walking within days and running again just weeks later. Read Sandra’s story: https://bit.ly/4bPiT4l

❤️ Have you heard of ? It happens when the heart's electrical signals fall out of rhythm, which can lead to an irregular heartbeat and a range of symptoms. Some arrhythmias are harmless, while others may need more attention.

Arrhythmias can affect anyone. If your heartbeat feels a little "off" or you're noticing unusual symptoms, it's best to get it checked out. If you're experiencing chest pain, severe shortness of breath or fainting, seek emergency care right away.

If you'd like to get your symptoms checked and it's not something requiring emergency care, schedule an appointment with one of our cardiologists: https://bit.ly/46mKbvx
