Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation, or MACI, is a procedure in which a patient’s own cells are used to regrow new cartilage for the knee joint.
This cutting-edge procedure is done in two steps:
The surgeon will take a sample of cartilage through a minimally invasive arthroscopy and then grow the cells to create new cartilage. The new cartilage is then implanted into the knee, filling areas where there is cartilage loss.
Candidates for this procedure include those with cartilage defects causing knee pain. Symptoms include sharp or dull pain in the front of the knee, difficulty with squatting or sitting for long periods of time, or pain with walking.

📚Distal clavicle fractures occur near the end of the clavicle and represent only 25% of all clavicle fractures. However, they account for a high number of complications related to clavicle fracture treatment.
🦴 Some of these fractures also have ligament injuries and don’t heal, in something we call a “nonunion”. (Photo 2)
🩻 While a variety of surgical techniques have been described, many of these techniques are associated with high failure rates and hardware-related complications.
👨🏻‍⚕️We came up with a surgical technique using a cadaver graft and screw, and a strong suture (coracoid loop) held by a metal button (DogBone) (photo 1) that has shown promising clinical results (photo 4)
