A patient asked me the other day how to explain the difference between medical/sickness care and lifestyle care. Sickness care involves someone who is otherwise healthy but possibly sprains an ankle or is involved in an accident or has a ache or pain that comes on slowly and gets worse over time. Patients tend to come in when the pain that keeps them up at night or affects other activities of daily living. Chiropractors are excellent at relieving short term pain.

Lifestyle care is doing activities every day to be a better you such as walking briskly for 30 minutes, eating a diet that is low in sugar, fat and salt. Another is to lower stress levels. I have noticed the healthiest people in all age groups are mindful of how they live their lives. It may not be apparent at 21 but it certainly is at 75.
