🐾🐶 Puppy Alert! 🐶🐾

Meet Murphy, an 8 month old golden retriever puppy who came in to give us a visit yesterday. This curious pup sneaked a capsule of Celebrax and gave his family quite the scare!

After a little bit of help from our team, Murphy turned out just fine! He came in wagging his tail like crazy, and left the exact same way! 🐾💛

🌟 Patient Spotlight: Gia 🌟

After more than a week with us at VRCC, Gia showed us what true resilience looks like. On 9/22, diagnostic imaging ruled out a foreign body or obstruction, but our team found she had severely decreased GI mobility (ileus). She required intensive hospitalization from our Critical Care team. Throughout these uncomfortable 8 days, she did such a great job fighting her way back to health. ❤

We are so grateful to her family for trusting us with her care, and to our team who were with her every step of the way. Big thanks to Natalie, Kerrigan, Alicia, and our critical care doctors for their incredible work.

Her tail wags said it all as she graduated from the ICU and headed home! 🥹🐶✨

🦸‍♂️ Patient Update: Super Liam! 🦸‍♂️

This is Liam, our golden retriever superman! 🐾❤ Liam came in last week for a recheck and his next round of CHOP chemotherapy with oral cyclophosphamide. We are happy to share that his lymph nodes are showing improved swelling, putting him in partial remission against his B-cell lymphoma! 💪

🦸‍♂️ Liam isn't just wearing his superman cape, he is truly living up to the name! He is eating well, full of energy, and facing lymphoma like a hero. 🐾❤️

🩺 Case Spotlight: Ryku’s Hidden Wound 🩺

Ryku, a cute Alaskan Klee Kai, was brought to VRCC for a wound on his left hip that wasn't healing properly. X-rays could not pinpoint the exact problem, so our team went forward with a CT scan of this area. That's when we found the culprit, a small stick lodged deep into the subcutaneous tissue. 📸🪵

Our surgery team, led by Dr. Graville, removed the foreign body along with small amounts of inflamed tissue, which was submitted for biopsy. We are so happy to share that surgery and recovery went smoothly for Ryku! 🐾💙

This case is a great example of how collaboration within our team can change outcomes for pets and families looking for answers.

❤Patient Update: Post for Toast!🍞❤

Toast is a sweet Australian Cattle Dog mix who was unfortunately diagnosed with lymphoma earlier this summer. He began chemotherapy treatment with our Oncology team on August 20th.

We are very happy to share that Toast is doing great! Here are some fun photos of him enjoying dog day at Water World last week. Moments like these remind us of how treatment options can give pets more good days with their families. ❤

🩺Case Spotlight: Stuart🩺

Stuart's family searched for answers for his chronic sneezing and nasal discharge. The standard treatment options only gave temporary relief. When he was referred to VRCC by Goldsmith Veterinary Clinic, our team used our advanced CT imaging to get a better look.

📸The CT images (slide 4 and 5) revealed something heartbreaking. A metallic BB bullet was lodged in Stuart's nasal passage, an injury that happened before Stuart was adopted by his family. Without the help from Brooke Tasse, our lead radiology technician, as well as our CT machine, the foreign object would have been very difficult to find.

🐾During his procedure, Dr Liz Groth and Cherise Zaparte from our internal medicine team removed the BB from his nasal passage. Our team then used a tiny scope to confirm that no other material was retained (slide 3.)

Stuart is now on antibiotics and will return soon for a follow up, but the most important part is he is now feeling better and breathing more comfortably. ❤ Both us and his family are so happy to see him doing better! 😻

🩺Case Spotlight: Edward's Bead Mystery🩺

This is Edward, a curious French Bulldog who at times eats some unusual items. As a puppy, he needed surgery for swallowing a stuffed toy, this time, he decided a beaded lizard sounded delicious! 🦎

After vomiting a few times, Edward's family suspected foreign material, and after inducing emesis he vomited up a beaded lizard toy. Because beads don't always show up on X-rays, our team started with an ultrasound and then moved on to endoscopy. We then found and successfully removed more beads from his stomach.

Edward recovered smoothly from the anesthesia and is resting comfortably at home on a bland diet for the next couple of days. This is a great reminder that pets can be very creative in what they choose is on the menu. If you think your pet has eaten something unusual, please seek veterinary care right away! ❤🐾
