I want to share a story I received today of a WWII vet by the name of Morris Webster Ott. He is a native of Eckerty, Indiana. They are looking for more information on him and his family. Any help, please reply to this post.
This is the message I received:
Commemorating the sacrifice of
T/4 Morris W. OTT (Ahuillé, France - Aug 6, 1944)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you from Ahuillé, a small village in Mayenne, France.
I am currently conducting deep historical research to honor the memory of the American liberators who fought in our sector during the summer of 1944.
On August 6, 1944, at a place called 'La Blinière' in our village, an M5A1 Stuart light tank from Troop F, 121st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron was hit by German fire. I have identified that the driver of this tank was T/4 Morris W. OTT, originally from Eckerty, Indiana.
While his assistant-driver, Pfc Robert H. Crookshanks, tragically lost his life that day, Morris W. Ott was wounded but survived. We wish to inform the people of Eckerty that we have not forgotten his service. His courage contributed to the liberation of our homes.
I would be honored to receive any information, photos, or to connect with any descendants of Mr. Ott to share our gratitude.
Sincerely,
Jacques André Aubry
On behalf of the local history project of Ahuillé, France.
