April is Stress Awareness Month, but for couples dealing with an affair, "stress" doesn't quite cover it. 💔
Betrayal often triggers a trauma response similar to PTSD—hyper-vigilance, flashbacks, and emotional dysregulation. If you feel like your world has been turned upside down, it’s because your "safety map" has been erased.
In my practice, I utilize the Gottman Method (Atone, Attune, Attach) to help couples slowly rebuild that map. Healing isn't about "getting over it"; it's about being the change and building something new from the ground up..Healing isn't about "getting over it"; it's about being the change and building something new from the ground up.
If you’re currently navigating this path, know that you don't have to do it alone. Please feel free to reach out via DM or through my website if you’d like to learn more about how the Gottman Method can help your relationship heal. counselingservicesnj.com

As we wrap up Stress Awareness Month, I want us to practice a very important habit: Noticing the Good. 🌟

When we are under high stress, our brains develop a "negativity bias," where we only see the to-do list items we didn't finish or the mistakes we made. To "Be the Change," we have to intentionally train our brains to spot our successes.

Your Friday Mission: Tell me one "Small Win" from your week.

Did you take that 2-minute reset?

Did you have a difficult conversation with kindness?

Did you finally say "no" to an extra task?

Drop your win in the comments below! I’ll be cheering you on! 👇

What if I told you that doing "nothing" for 120 seconds is actually a vital clinical skill? 🌿

In our high-speed world, we often stay in a state of "High Beta" brain waves—that buzzing, frantic energy where we are constantly scanning our to-do lists. To "Be the Change" and lower our stress, we have to manually shift our nervous system back into a state of calm.

The Micro-Break Challenge: > 1. Set a timer for 2 minutes.
2. Put your phone in another room.
3. Simply look out a window or focus on the sensation of your feet on the floor.

This isn't "wasting time." It’s a physiological reset that lowers cortisol and helps you return to your family or your work with more clarity and less reactivity.

Can you spare 2 minutes today to try a reset? Type 'READY' if you're in! 👇

Be honest: What is the very first thing you do when you wake up? ☕️📱

How we spend our first 20 minutes can set the "baseline" for our stress levels all day long.

Which team are you on?
🧘 Team Coffee & Quiet: You need a moment of peace before the world rushes in.
📱 Team Scroll & Go: You’re checking news or notifications before your feet hit the floor.

There is no "wrong" answer, but one definitely keeps the mental load a bit lighter! Drop your emoji below! 👇

DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOU ARE CARRYING THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD ON YOUR SHOULDERS?
Stress isn't just "in your head"—it's a physical experience. When our nervous system stays on high alert, our body starts keeping score.

Look out for these 3 signals:
1️⃣ The Shallow Breath: Feeling like you can’t catch a full, deep breath.
2️⃣ The Constant Clench: Unconscious jaw-tightening or hunched shoulders.
3️⃣ The 'Tired but Wired' Sleep: Being exhausted but unable to shut your brain off at night.

Recognizing these is the first step to 'Being the Change.' Which one of these do you notice the most in yourself? 👇

Welcome to a new week! 🌿

April is Stress Awareness Month, and our theme this week is 'Be the Change.' Last week, we checked in on our mental batteries; this week, we’re taking it a step further by looking at how we can actively shift our daily habits to lower our baseline stress.

We’ll be exploring why 'doing nothing' is actually a clinical skill, how stress shows up in our relationships, and some quick pivots to help you feel more in control. I’m looking forward to another week of connecting with you all!

Ever notice that when you finally sit down to relax, your brain starts a "to-do list" marathon?

This is the Mental Load in action. We’ve been conditioned to believe that our worth is tied to our productivity. But rest isn't a reward for finishing your work—it’s the fuel that allows you to do the work in the first place.

If you struggled to "unplug" this week, you aren't alone. It takes practice to quiet the noise.
