❄️ Snowstorm Safety Tips: Protect Your Back & Body! ❄️
With the major snowstorm on the way here in Central PA, we want to help our patients and community stay safe and injury-free. Snow removal and slippery conditions can put extra stress on your spine, joints, and muscles—so a little prevention goes a long way!
🧤 Before You Head Outside
Warm up first! A few minutes of gentle stretching can reduce muscle strains.
Dress in layers and wear gloves with good grip.
Wear boots with solid traction to prevent slips and falls.
⛄ Shoveling Smart
Push snow when possible—lifting increases strain on your back.
If lifting is unavoidable, bend at the knees (not the waist) and keep the shovel close to your body.
Avoid twisting while lifting or tossing snow—pivot your feet instead.
Take frequent breaks and pace yourself.
🚗 Getting In & Out of Cars
Use your car or door frame for support on icy surfaces.
Keep walkways and driveways salted to reduce slips.
🧊 General Safety Tips
Stay hydrated—even cold weather can lead to dehydration.
Listen to your body: pain is a warning sign, not something to “push through.”
If possible, ask for help or consider a snow removal service.
If you do feel sore, stiff, or injured after the storm, we’re here to help keep you moving comfortably and safely. Stay warm, stay safe, and check in on your neighbors! 💙
