🪱For our last parasitology class, we had the opportunity to visit Penn State Behrend and present to their microbiology students! 🪱

Our MLS students did a great job preparing their slides and explaining their organisms to the PSB students. We presented to two sections, so between classes we reviewed for our final exam and had a great lunch on campus! 🥪

It was nice to get out of our comfort zone in the hospital and introduce the MLS career, school, and some parasites to other students!! 🤩

Thanks to Penn State Behrend Biology Department for having us! 😁

Let's raise a glass (or a beaker!) to Lynell, who recently celebrated her retirement after an amazing 44-year career in medical laboratory science! 🥳🥂

She has been instrumental in educating and mentoring many MLS professionals who are now making a difference in labs across the country. We are incredibly grateful for her 44 years of service and the lasting impact she's had on our students and the field. 👩‍🔬👩‍🏫

We know many of you have wonderful memories of Lynell from your time at the school and/or the lab. Please share them in the comments!!

🩸The next part of antibody identification is learning how to cross off panels. ❌

Shelby is teaching the students how to perform this part, which was a dry lab in the conference room. The students had to work on a variety of different antibody panels. The antibodies ranged from a simple anti-K to multiple antibodies, and some showing dosage!

The students are back from Thanksgiving break and working on antibody identification in Blood Bank!

While many people know their blood type, such as 🅰️, 🅱️, 🆎, and🅾️, there are many other antigens on red blood cells! When a person is exposed to an antigen they do not possess (through blood transfusion or pregnancy), they can make antibodies to the foreign antigen.

Here, the students are determining which antibody their patient has in student lab. Once they master the art of antibody identification, they will be able to find donor blood that will help their patient.
