Here, the students are measuring creatinine in a serum sample using the Jaffe method. 💛
In this method, creatinine reacts with alkaline picrate to form a colored complex that absorbs at 510 nm. The rate of color formation is proportional to the creatinine in the sample. To perform this assay, the students had to set their spectrophotometers to a given wavelength, set a heat block to a specific temperature, and prepare the working reagent.
