Welcome to my birth story!!!
I feel like my Instagram has been a lot more personal lately ๐ but this post takes us back to my ethos of holistic public health education ๐
Previously I posted about my pregnancy journey of hyperemesis, fortunately that had resolved, but just before finding out that I had placenta previa at the 20 week anatomy scan which lead to pelvic rest and exercise restriction for the remainder of the pregnancy.
If youโre unfamiliar, placenta previa is a condition where the placenta partially or completely covers the cervix. This puts the mother at high risk for hemorrhage and the baby at risk of distress if labor begins, so a planned C-section is the only safe option.
In our case, the previa was mildโjust brushing the edge of the cervix. Studies show that in 94% of similar cases, the placenta moves away as the uterus grows, usually resolving by 34 weeks. So we stayed hopeful.
Unfortunately, at each follow-up, the placenta hadnโt budged. Our midwife allowed us to wait until 37 weeks to make a final decision. The original C-section was scheduled for 6/27 at 39 weeks, but at that 37-week visit, we learned the previa was still presentโand more serious than expected. To avoid any risk of labor or bleeding, the C-section was moved up 10 days.
Obviously, this hasnโt been the pregnancy or birth I envisioned but it has been such a blessing in disguise as it taught me to slow down, let go of the uncontrollable AND we got to meet our baby boy 2 weeks early ๐ถ๐ผ๐ฅฐ
The rest of the pregnancy and delivery was uncomplicated and both me and baby are doing great and recovering well! Iโm so grateful to have conventional medicine in these cases and we were truly blessed by the amazing care we received from our medical team ๐ฉ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐
Nonetheless, Iโm feeling much more like myself and wanted to share my holistic efforts towards recovery! ๐๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ฑ๐ซ
