Pastors/Priests/Worship Leaders: how will you worship during the holiday season WITHOUT leading?

Where and when can you do this? Can you potentially set aside time to attend worship elsewhere?

A new thought for pastors and laypeople: schedule a complete break from your job before Thanksgiving – go away, and be unavailable so that you enter the season refreshed.

It is vital to the people you serve that you be whole.

In January, look back and notice/write what you did differently and how it worked out.

Then, start your plan for 2024!

Don't make yourself guilty for feeling ALL your feelings. You don't have to be 100% each and every day.

Holidays can be exhausting for spiritual leaders and people in any kind of service work. Do you have a self-care plan in place?

Spend some time writing about your thoughts NOW -- not three weeks before December.

What would allow you to remember the meaning of the holiday season and share it with others?

Do this a few days a week in November. Read, reflect, play, take time off, and talk to others in your profession about how they take care of themselves.

What will you do differently to remember the "reason for the season?"

What mornings/afternoons will you make yourself unavailable to others during the season?

Turn to your calendar for June/July 2023.

Make a note to announce to yourself and your family in July about what you will do differently next Christmas.

Ex : "We are going to celebrate with just our family at this place and time."

“I’m not making X item of food next year.”

Make an alert on your calendar to say this again in September.

Why should you do this? Because it is summer and no one is thinking about Christmas - but you said it out loud and your brain heard it and will start thinking about the possibility.

When you say it again out loud in September, you will have started to believe it and people still won’t take notice.

When you say it in November, people will be stunned and you will nonchalantly say, “Yeah, remember that I told you in July and September.”

It's important to say this as you are going out the door and don’t stop to explain yourself!
